Personal Narrative: My Core Beliefs
Our beliefs are what drive everyone’s attitudes, values, and ultimately behaviors at work. Core beliefs can originate from a negative or positive place. My own core beliefs developed from my childhood and through my life experiences. I must prove I am good, strong and brave. I must prove that I am not weak, worthless, or dependent. I believe in forfeit my own needs in the service of others. If I don’t, I often feel guilty, and compensate by putting the needs of others ahead of their own. I believe I am responsible for the happiness of very close friends and family members. These core beliefs rooted in responsibility self-sacrifice come from having to take responsibility for family members in my youth, such as taking care of my brother and sister while my mother was at work or checking up on my grandmother while she’s home alone.
Emma was seen as a respectable and hardworking employee who was quick learner and completed her work on time, but was unfairly punishment because she used the company computers for personal use. She feels as though she should not be dismissed from her job because they policy was vague, outdated and inconsistently enforced as she was the only employee singled out while employee also use their computer for use have not been reprimanded or dismissed. She completed all the work that was given to her before it was due, so she had a right to use some of her down time to do what she wanted. What she was doing on the computer was not serious enough for het to be dismissed or reprimanded. She only uses the computer for a couple of reasons; to look on shopping sites but she doesn’t purchase anything, personal emails, and downloading music to listen to block out the noise so she could concentrate better on her work. If other employee could use their computers for personal use without getting in trouble, why couldn’t

The values that I hold most deeply are friendships, family, and happiness. Values are things that are important in the way I live and work and I believe all of these things play a major role in my life. Since I was a little kid, my values have changed tremendously. Back then, my values would've been playtime, mac & cheese, and chicken nuggets. I believe values mature as you grow and mine definatly did. For example, when I was younger I remember being friends with everyone, but now I only have a select number of friends. This represents values to me. My values inform my actions by them always being my first thought while making a decision. They always play a role in my…

An employee that violates restrictions or exceeds authorized use of a computers access, may be held criminally responsible and charged. However, “damages” according to the CFAA is defined as “impairment to the integrity or availability of data, program, system or information” (Leagle. 2008. Sec.1,par.3). In order for damages to be filed as a civil suit, Nichols would have had to erase or dispose of, or infect the files on the computer, in which he did not. Furthermore, Wong failed to specify an exact amount with detailed information regarding the loss he incurred through Nichols’ actions. However, Wong can file an amended claim for loss (Leagle. 2008).…

I feel this may be the key argument in dealing with this issue since there is no record of her complaint and time to adjust adequately to her complaint before she resigned. Her complaint is that the policy requires workers to work 4 days on then off did not allow her to have off the holy day. While the policy on the face does not allow that the employee is off every “holy day” the company has defense in that the work day may not entirely interfere. Additionally, the company does have the defense of company necessity as a strong justification to the policy. Finally, her lack of contacting the supervisor to see if a resolution could be reached undermines her argument of Constructive…

The issue presented in dilemma number one arises from an employee named Aaron Webb who posted sensitive company information. His posting was not derogatory in nature however the information is considered private. In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

Some of these strengths I had previously recognized as a strength, but a few were a surprise to me. Growing up, I was always a competitive person. I enjoyed the thrill of winning, whether it be in a team effort or individual effort. Also, I have always wanted to achieve great things in both my personal and professional life. I believe that I have always been great at communicating with others and love to include others in everything that I do to achieve a goal. The biggest strength of mine that surprised me most was Harmony. However, after reading about each strength, I know how I have utilized…

There is much debate over what employers should and should not be able to do when it comes to monitoring the communications of individuals under their employment. There are those who feel that the rights of the individual are not limited to protection from the Government and employers have limited rights in regards to employee communication. There those that feel that the employer should have very little to no restraint in monitoring those under their employment. Going too far in either the employers or employee position can create an unproductive and unrealistic standard for a working environment. Employers must be able to create and maintain both a productive and safe working environment from their employees. However this does not mean employees should be subject to unreasonable and intrusive monitoring practices by their employer. Communication privacy laws and workplace policies should be carefully crafted to provided balanced protection both the interest of employer and employee.…

At times I feel as though I'm trying and failing to be a human being. But what makes us human? I feel although I'm a human-shaped shell made out of pieces of things I find interesting. Instead of a real identity. Just layers of things that I hope will make me different from others. But am I? We rely so much on the opinion of others. But why? Why do we crave acceptance of others? If people were to look closely, they'd notice there really isn't anything there.Just a mess of a person trying to find their ‘place in the world. All we want is to be remembered. Just to prove we are something , we where something. How will I be remembered? Or will I fade into oblivion? Is this the meaning of life? To spend it hoping we have some significance in this…

The idea of employee rights involves many complex issues. An employee’s right to a workplace free of discrimination and harmful environmental factors is obvious. Yet, other issues surrounding privacy, personal expression, and communication monitoring are not as clear-cut. While employees may feel that they have the right to express their opinions and use business communications while working, not only may they be fooling themselves but they are acting in a way that is unethical. While businesses do not have the right to control employee behaviors outside of the workplace, they do have the right to monitor and control communications and employee actions during paid time. As such, employees have the right to reasonable expectations in terms of communication, yet cannot (within limits) ethically demand a right to privacy, private communication, or personal expression while they are utilizing business property or on business time. Workplace privacy has been a hot issue in the last decade, as more and more workplaces incorporate email and Internet-use into the office environment. Many employees now use email and the Internet daily, not to mention the telephone (Nord, McCubbins, & Nord, 2006). With high volumes of communicatio…
