Personal Narrative: Moving To Cleveland
Thomas
My grandfather had always told me to if you don't pray 3 times a day your relationship with god will not be good.
My parents had died in a fire when I was 6. But the one of the things i remember about the is that they they said that I should move to Cleveland. I tried to apply to some of the major colleges in Cleveland but I could not get into any of them so I applied to Ohio state. I Got into Ohio State I got a my major in regionalism and now I'm a rabbi at one of the major synagogues in Cleveland .
When I saw ht the garden i thought i could maybe grow some of my favorite fruit FIGS!!!! The next day I asked Sam,someone I knew from my synagogue if I could add onto the garden because I would like to be the first one to grow figs.
Sam said “yes you can but you can only grow one tree”
Then I said “but I would like to grow more to share”
Then Sam said”no you can only grow one tree”

Then Sam said”Maybe but nobody would be able to help you pay for it and you would have to add on you it whenever someone would like you to add on to it okay”.
Then I said”okay but if people offer I will need to take it because the synagogue does not pay very much”
Then Sam said” I thought you were doing this for god!”
Then I said “ I need it to donate to my synagogue we have not made as we did last year so we need more money to a on to the synagogue.
“OK” said Sam
The next day I started building and planting then one man, Amir his name was asked if he could help me build I said yes he also asked if he could bring some felt to decorate the buildings. Then I said “yes that would be very helpful”. “Okay I will have them by tomorrow” said Amir “Thanks” I said than they went inside until tomorrow The next day Amir brought the felts and he asked, “Could I please help you build he buildings”. The eudemonic activity that I engaged in was giving all of my household furniture to a charity that helps refugee families new to our country. (I’m planning a move to another city, so it’s not quite as crazy as it sounds). I phoned the charity and arranged pick up of my leather living-room suite, solid wood dining room set and heirloom bedroom furniture plus other miscellaneous items. I also had to get a friend to be there when they arrived because I had to work. I was nervous about the prospect of giving away my “cherished” things and was unsure of whether I was making a mistake. However, afterward I received a thank you letter from one of the volunteers that made it all worthwhile. I can reread it anytime I want and it is worth far more than any amount of material…

We reached a restaurant and occupied our seats, the waiter placed the menu card before Umar, I snatched it and authoritatively asked him his choice. He answered after a pause, ‘Whatever you like’. I ordered for the dinner and resumed our talks from where we left it.…
