Personal Narrative: Kansas City Chiefs
It was a chilly Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium and the Kansas City Chiefs were playing the San Diego Chargers. The air smelled of hot dogs and sweat. My grandpa and I were sitting nine rows back on the 50 yard line, Chiefs’ side. There were punters, kickers, running backs, and wide receivers of both teams warming up on the field, and with kickoff nearing, my grandpa and I started getting anxious. With me being younger, I had just gotten done contemplating on whether or not to go to the game, or to go trick-or-treating. Although I missed out on Halloween, I will be forever thankful that I was able to attend the most exciting game I have ever been to.
San Diego got lined up to return the kickoff. The crowd, resembling a sea of red, began

The Chargers were up to punt. The Chiefs anticipated the punt and returned the ball to the 25 yard line. This time the Chiefs took the ball 75 yards for a touchdown. The Chargers now had the ball. This drive capitalized in a two yard touchdown run followed by the two point conversion, so the game was now tied 20-20. The Chiefs got the ball and proceeded to have a three-and-out. The Chiefs were in a bad situation. The Chargers had the ball with under 5 minutes left and good field position. The chargers got the ball down to the 15 yard line with under a minute to go. The Chiefs’ loss was inevitable. My grandpa and I began to get out of our seats and head out of the stadium, when suddenly there was a monstrous roar from the crowd. I turned around to see that Philip Rivers had fumbled the snap and the Chiefs had recovered the ball. It was a second life for the Chiefs. The Chiefs were unable to score in the remaining 48 seconds, and were forced to punt and head into overtime.
The Chargers won the coin toss and elected to receive. It was chargers ball on their own 20 yard line. The Chiefs forced a three-and-out. The Chargers punted the ball and the Chiefs started their drive on their own 19 yard line. 13 plays later the Chiefs had made it all the way to the Charger’s 12 yard line. Kansas City didn’t want to try their luck so the Chiefs were set to kick a field goal on third down. Ryan Succop was Kansas City’s

It was second quarter of the Washington Wilkes Tigers vs. Greene County Tigers football game in 2016. The empty city, with very little grocery stores and no entertainment. Not much of a place where I would want to reside, but they have been a rivalry for years. As we entered the stadium we heard the loud music as if we had come to get beat by the “fake tigers”. No tigers I have ever seen are blue and gold, so that was the go ahead to beat them and go home with a victory.…

It’s fourth and nineteen, Tampa Bay’s special teams unit comes on, trying to pin Carolina deep in their own territory. “Hike!” It’s a fake! Tampa Bay’s punter drops back. He finds a double covered, third string running back streaking down the field. He throws the ball as hard as he can. The ball travels a total of three yards before an oncoming Julius Peppers snags it out of the air. “Interception! He’s at the thirty. The twenty. The ten. He could go all the way! Touchdown!” This was the play that capped off my brothers 56-0 beat-down of me in our Blackfoot cousins Madden tournament. Taking a moment to comprehend what had just happened, I stared at the screen in disbelief. The entire ensuing minute was madness. “You cheated!”, “That would…

On February 3, 2013, the biggest, grandest, most-watched single event in American sports is coming to New Orleans. (Tourism) New Orleans as celebrated plenty of milestones on its slow road to recovery from Hurricane Katrina, but arguably none is bigger than hosting its first Super Bowl since the 2005 storm left the city in shambles. (Kunzelman) As fans prepare to travel to cheer for their favorite teams, the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens arrive in the city and prepare to face off in the 47th Annual Super Bowl championship. Yet, perhaps the biggest preparation for this major event is that of the city itself.…

That meant a kick off. We were all tense. If they scored that could be the game. Their team's kicker kicked the ball to the right of Damien who dived and caught it. We all let out a loud cheer and then fell silent as Evan, one our best kickers went up to the line to kick. If we scored the next goal, then we would win. Evan went up to the PK line. He reared back and kicked it.…

February 7th, 2010. Super Bowl XLIV. Four years post Hurricane Katrina. As smoke cleared from “The Who” halftime concert, Thomas Morstead, the kicker for the New Orleans Saints, set to kick the ball off to the Indianapolis Colts to start the third quarter. With the Saints down 10 to 6, and Indianapolis’s Chad Simpson standing in his own end zone ready to return the kick off, Saints Head Coach, Sean Payton, called one of the gutsiest plays in the super bowl era of football. Thomas Morstead standing at his own 30 yard line executed the only on-side kick before the fourth quarter in NFL history. The ball traveled 15 yards before being touched by Hank Basket, an Indianapolis Colts player, who could not make a clean recovery. The ball ended up at the bottom of a pile of bodies all fighting for it. It took over a minute for the officials to clear bodies out of the pile and determine who definitively recovered the on-side kick. Chris Reis, a safety for the New Orleans Saints, came out of the pile victorious. The Saints would subsequently score a touchdown, taking their first lead of the game.…

We got to Charlotte, parked, took a good look at each other faces full of eagerness and off we ventured into the private doors to the stadium seats. I remember walking out of the tunnel leading to our seats and the first thing I noticed, to my surprise, was a plethora of green and yellow. Of course there was more black and blue, but I don’t think either one of us expected that many Packer fans. I looked down at the perfect view I had in front of me. The bright green rectangle of fresh turf and huge screens on each side of the field to catch every minute detail amazed me. We were right in the middle of the field and far enough back to watch as each play unfolded. Being so anxious, we arrived 45 minutes before kick-off leaving us with nothing to do but go grab something to eat. We stepped up to the counter to take in the huge sign with a list of foods. I smelled popcorn and although tempting, I knew exactly what I wanted. “What are you getting?” Nick’s voice interrupted my thoughts of food. “The only thing I ever eat, pizza” I replied back truthfully. He bought my pizza and himself a huge double cheeseburger. After inhaling our food (my mother says we eat too quick), The Packers ran out unto the field for warm-ups. Nick and I both cheered and screamed while dirty looks came our direction from Panther fans. Nick laughed at me for immediately taking my phone out and snapping a million pictures but deep down inside I knew he was glad I was doing it so he wouldn’t have…

The stadium was filled to full capacity with women, men, and children. I could not spot an empty seat in the place. Many spectators were dressed in colors of black, blue, and gold. However, the overall majority of the crowd was dressed in black and red. After the singing of the National Anthem, the football teams flooded the field in grandiose fashion. The crowd became ecstatic. The fans were cheering so loud that neither my girlfriend nor I could hear each other. The first quarter of the game seemed rather dull and mediocre, however by the second quarter, things had become incredibly intense. At the commencement of the second quarter, I could see athletes perform almost superhuman feats such as running, jumping, and throwing. The athletes appeared to be demigods with helmets and modern day gladiators. One player got hit so hard that he was carted off the field. Nonetheless, the game continued without a skipping a beat. During the second quarter, fans continued to cheer and chant for their teams. As the masses roared, the players responded by playing more aggressively. As the game went on, each team proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Each time one team scored, the other team replied with a score of their own. The back and forth scoring kept the fans on edge and tense. By the end of the second quarter, the game had become tied with only the second half…

It was a crisp cold fall day at Lambeau field. I could see everything that was happening the whole entire time. The field was as green as a tree in the middle of Summer. The cold wind was whistling in my ear. The smell the hot dogs, burgers, and turf from the field filled my nose as the game begin. All I could hear were people cheering on the Packers and the jumbotron blaring, “Go pack go!” I could see the running back Eddie Lacy drive the ball into the end zone and everyone went wild. A mix people cheering and screaming filled my ears. After the opposing team returned the ball everyone started cheering, “Defense, defense, defense!” The watched the ball get intercepted and run down the field for another touchdown! The crowd roared and I got…

The coach huddles us together and fills us with courage and excitement with his words. Now five us us move to the middle of the field for the coin toss. The coin flies into the air, shimmering in the lights, and seems to hover forever, then falls back into the referees palm. The ball is ours! The kick off return forms on the field. The opposing team kicks the ball, and like a magnet, the ball plummets into my teammates hand. He reaches the fifty yard line with the help of the huge V that is formed by the line men. Now the battle back and forth for this small oval commences. The enemy fights hard, and we fight back, but they still manage to score many points on us. By half time they lead by…

I was right at the 5 yard line when the girl on the other team tackle me right to the side line we a got up she patted my shoulder pads and said,” nice run dude you were close but i got you,” all of my team ran to me and were cheering so loud the other team got mad but i did not care it was a home game at the huntley high school. I realized that you should never like celebrate too early or you might not get anywhere and you should all have good sportsmanship to any and any one because you never know what will happen to the person that you did not give the respect to might do. Also it really does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun i say that because the other team were like mad sad and some were even crying because that could be their last game and disappointed in there self you can just see it in there eyes and their actions they they were kicking the turf and tackling each other because they did not make it to the playoffs i ran over there to break it up and i told them it does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun and they said,” yay that's what it's really about thanks,’’ and i ran back to my team and i broke us…
