Personal Narrative: Improving My Dance Performance
During this semester so far, I feel that I have grown not only to be a better dancer, but I have improved my performance quality in the classroom. As I am in my third semester of ballet II, I really want to focus on the things that I can perform better at. Although I do have goals for myself such as, fully completing a double pirouette on my left as well as a triple pirouette on my right, and strengthening my glute’s and hamstring more instead of gripping in my hip flexors and quadriceps when doing grande battements. Throughout the rest of the semester in ballet, I plan to fully put effort towards these goals so that I can improve and more forward. Working on my pirouettes has been a goal that I have been working on for a while now. In class, I feel that I have been going for it instead of holding back. I have focused my on center by fully pulling up and engaging my lower abdominals. When going across the floor, I …show more content…
I don’t think that I am falling behind and I am definitely on top of my stuff. One thing that has really worked for me throughout this course, is writing down the exercises. While learning our midterm combinations at the barre and center, I wrote all of them down so that I could remember them when it came time to perform them. By doing this, it has allowed me to focus on the details of the combinations instead of trying to remember the combinations. This has also helped me to perform the combinations to my fullest potential instead of acting like I’m lost. The corrections that I have been given throughout the semester so far include: making sure that I am getting my tendu’s and dégagés fully behind me, engaging my lower abdominals, and reaching my heels down when coming up from a grande plié. I have taken these few corrections and have applied them to the best of my ability. I know that there are times that I slip up and forget about it, but doesn’t mean I have forgot all about

I approach everything step by step....I had always set short-term goals. As I look back, each one of the steps or successes led to the next one. When I got cut from the varsity team as a sophomore in high school, I learned something. I knew I never wanted to feel that bad again....So I set a goal of becoming a starter on the varsity. That’s what I focused on all summer. When I worked on my game, that’s what I thought about. When it happened, I set another goal, a reasonable, manageable goal that I could realistically achieve if I worked hard enough....I guess I approached it with the end in mind. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, and I focused on getting there. As I reached those goals, they built on one another. I gained a little confidence every time I came through.…

My partner of eleven years is my greatest cheerleader. When I feel overwhelmed and depressed she gives me encouragement to conquer every challenge I’m faced with. In addition to my partner, another influential person in my life is a co-worker and friend. She fills the maternal role that is absent in my life, by giving me advice, different perspectives, and confidence. My career plays a vital role in my resilience, it gives me cause to wake up and achieve greatness each day. The children I work with inspire me to be a better educator, nurturer, and caregiver. When I am feeling depressed nothing lifts my spirits speedier, than my students. I believe it is a gift to have the availability to focus on constructing children’s strengths, rather than…

To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. Because of this, I have developed a deep insight of the components necessary to be a true Pentathlete. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. With this, one like myself could ultimately…

When I was in second grade I learned that I loved competing with people and being good at things. I joined a gymnastics gym near my house in second grade when i was 9, and started competing when i was 10. My mom told me that I have to do well in school if I was going to be focused on a sport along with school, or she would take me out of gymnastics. Soon enough, I wasn’t doing so well in social studies and comm skills. I was scared my mom would make me quit, But I worked as hard as I could so get back up there. Focusing more on school than outside activities, I got that grade back up and I continued with my favorite sport. A major theme in my life is improvement. I challenge myself to take risks and set high expectations for myself. For instance, I strive to run faster and for longer distances every couple of times I approach the treadmill belt. I am obstinate about my minimum distance, 2.2 miles, and my minimum speed, 6.8. A major component of improving myself is learning. Every new word is a miniscule enhancement of my massive English vocabulary pool, but it is still a step in the right direction. I enjoy becoming more knowledgeable in both domestic and international affairs. I wish I could have more time to pour into reading current event and health articles. I was a gymnast for thirteen years and currently a diver so my body has been through a lot. Last year I obtained a back injury that put me out most of the practices. I was diagnosed with a Double scoliosis, Sheuermanns disease, Sheuermanns nodes on my spine, arthritis in my vertebra, and collapsing disks. When I first found out what all the test had meant I felt like it was over. The main reason why I picked west minster was for the diving, and it's what I have done every day for the past four years. I began to panic and think I will never dive again. So, for months on months and still continuing today I went to Physical therapy every day. I went to multiply doctors to do everything I could to help my back from laser therapy to acupuncture…
