Personal Narrative: How Gambling Changed My Life
What to do to kill time? Growing up i've always had the urge to seek money and to find the easiest way to obtain it. Before I even turned 18 i already had a big tv, a custom PC and all the gaming consoles, so where do you go from there? Once i turned 18 i got into gambling and started pursuing the “so called easy money”. After about 2 months of gambling i had pretty decent luck and made 2,000 off 20 dollars. One night me and my family went gambling, I really at the time didn't know much about poker but they introduced me to it that night which changed my life. That night off of 100 dollars i turned it into 18,000 dollars and that's what set my miniature career off. After about a year of gambling the adrenaline slowly dissipated away. I was …show more content…
My focus now is to just get out more and live my young adult year life out before i look back. I've gained more progress in my life now than i did 2 years ago. What helped most of getting out of the casino rhythm was my friends to get me into skateboarding and getting into the skateboard and just to go for it. It was a good addiction while it lasted knowing i was going to the casino to win money and actually walk out with money. It was almost a guaranteed win every time i went, I was making 400 a night if not more in high school. Now i can't win anything and it's a depressing thought knowing you have lost your touch in something that you thought you were so accomplished and good in. That's why skateboarding is a better alternative because i know everytime i go i'll be getting better and better and i won't lose that accomplishment. If i could go back and do it all over again i wouldn't change a thing but if i had to i would've quit gambling a year sooner and probably would have saved 10,000 grand more. But it's about the experience in gambling more than the winning and that's where they get

“WHOA WHOA WHOA THIS IS BALONEY MAN!” that is something I say whenever I am frustrated. People have always told me sometimes the best way to learn something is through failure. People value things they have accomplished differently. Often the people whom are naturally adept at things do not realize how much of a struggle it can be for others. Many times when people have told me that if you are going to fall, fall forward. Do not let your insecurities, doubts, and pride get in the way of improving yourself. In brief, there can always be a way to improve yourself.…

For my twelve step program I chose to go to a gambling anonymous program. I chose this because this I did not believe this was something that most people thank of or effected by. I was so wrong about that. I found out that in this community Gambling addiction is a huge problem that effects many families and lives in our community. The clock above my head ticks slowly, the sound ever increasing as the minutes pass by; tick, tick, tick. I normally do not notice the time while I work, usually I am the energizer bunny of workers, in early, out late, always working or willing to, but that day was different; I had a date; a first date to be exact. Finally the time has come for me to go home; I step out into the warm Vegas air, I can smell the familiar scents of fall slowly encroaching on the city. September in Vegas is typically warm, with the average daily temperatures in the upper nineties. I lite a cigarette and walk through the parking garage to my car. My mind was racing; what will he be like, will he be funny, boring; I even allow my thoughts to drift to what he would look like naked.…

The part of my life I am about to recount was during the summer of 2014 when I was the starting pitcher and third hitter for the Drexel Hill Little League tournament team. Now, baseball is america’s pastime and in my words is the greatest sport on god's green earth. A little background on the sport is it’s a game of nines. Nine starting players on each team try to score as many runs in nine inning by hitting a nine inch baseball coming in at an average speed of ninety miles per hour. This leaves the batter with about .16 Seconds to react to the pitch and hit it with all their power with a bat about 36 inches long and 2.75 Inches in diameter. I was first introduced to the sport when I was only seven years old and my father, who is also a huge…

From the day I could walk, I was involved in sports. From playing tee-ball in the backyard with my dad when I was three, to trying three new sports as a senior, athletics have been an integral part of my life. In my elementary school days, I tried every sport that was offered through the Jefferson Parks and Recreation. This included baseball, football, wrestling, karate, soccer, and tennis. Through middle school, I dropped several of these sports to focus on my two favorite sports, baseball and wrestling. Training for these two sports never ended and most of my time was spent either on a baseball field or on a wrestling mat. Entering my high school years, baseball and wrestling were the only sports I competed in. By my sophomore year, I was…

Nearing the end of the tube I can almost see the shore, It feels as if I've been riding this wave for days. This wave is my hurdle in the ocean that is life, choppy at the beginning but slowly passing by. The ocean has many waves, one for each surfer to ride, my specialty wave happened to be dyslexia. It was in the second grade that my teacher first realized I was different from the other students, because I had yet to read my first book. My parents had found this odd as well, and took me to see a neurologist, who diagnosed me as having dyslexia. I did not quite know what this meant at the time, I only knew that it was the reason I could not comprehend the topics as easily as my classmates.…

After sitting at the same desk for three years, I figured I was beyond seeing anything new. I was wrong. It was the beginning of the school year and I was hoping I would pass twelfth grade so I could try to go to college but right now chances looked slim. I am the classic couch potato, plump like a pig and lazy, that was why I couldn't pass. Over time I began to realize that I would need to alter my ways or I would spend a miserable life. I resolved to lift weights and run every day and get into shape and try a lot harder in school. I was fit and I had never played sports, so when school came I joined the football team. I studied the playbook hard and memorized the plays so that when they called a play I instantly saw what was going to…

Everyone in their lives overcomes adversity whether it is from work or disability it is never easy. About a year ago, I faced my own near fatal struggle with adversity. Life had become more of a burden than an adventure and nothing seemed to be looking up. Things progressed and events occurred that produced life changing results. After nearly losing my life I realized that things needed to change, mindsets needed to change. The one thing that had not changed was my stubbornness.…

In seventh grade I wanted to tryout for volleyball. I was very nervous because I had never played it before. I was super happy when I found out all my friends and I made the team. We had a lot of practices in December to get ready for games in January. I was really nervous for our first game. Our first game was supposed to be right after christmas break ended, but we had a snow day so it was cancelled. I wished it hadn’t been so I could just get it over with, but i was gonna have to wait. We were scheduled for another game later that week. I woke up with a phone ringing and an answering machine saying that school was cancelled due to boiler issues. I sat in bed thinking I had once again gotten lucky and we had no game, I was wrong. We were…

Counting to eight as I slowly raise one of my leg to do a “ballet leg” in the water was something that 6th grade me never imagined doing. Tossing a ball up to serve and trying to keep the ball in play to win a point was another thing that 6th grade me never imagined doing. What’s another thing that 6th grade me never imagined doing? Running with a pole down a straight path to get my whole body over a bar. So you can maybe already guess that 6th grade me wasn’t fond of sports. The reason why I just didn’t like sports wasn’t because I didn’t have an athletic ability or found it plain stupid, like most people do. The real reason why I didn’t like sports was that anxiety has taken over in me. Anxiety made me believe I didn’t have an athletic…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…

I don’t let on a whole lot about some of the things that happen in my home life because it never seemed appropriate or necessary in anyway, I never even really told my friends about it. My problems at home consisted of one family member who suffers from bipolar disorder. If that wasn’t enough of a strain, another problem was the fact that another person who is very close to me had a problem with addiction.
