Personal Narrative Essay Middle School
Personal Narrative Essay
It began in middle school. The experience that has made me the student I am today–a determined one. Having English as a second language has had a huge impact on how I view things as a student and as a writer. Being bilingual has its ups and downs. One of its downfalls is being placed in ELD class, or English language, class. Being put into ELD is very different than regular English classes. Having learned Spanish since birth it is a big change from English. For example, when you say or write a sentence in Spanish, the structure is reversed, compared to translated into English. Another big change is determining if a word is feminine or masculine. Having to take ELD through my elementary school and middle school year

The moment that led me to develop theses strategies was when my teacher, Ms. Rivera, assigned a writing assignment about the book Esperanza Rising. In my essay I had to about how Esperanza developed from being a rich girl who was used to receiving everything to going into poverty and losing everything. The first thing I would do is research or get clarification on the prompt I was given. When I received the prompt for Esperanza Rising, I analyzed key points that had to be stated specifically in my essay. The most crucial points that had to be specified would be to show the turning point where Esperanza realize that there are more important things than riches. I would also bullet point some ideas to help me brainstorm and let out my creativity. I bulleted examples and points made how Esperanza was at the beginning of the book and how she came to grow at the end. The next step I would do is I would start jotting down all my thought and ideas, and where I would like my essay or prompt to go. For this assignment, I outlined my essay by first writing some of the examples I gathered and then analyzing what the examples showed. I would usually ask a friend or my teachers to review and look over my essay to see if there are any running sentences, misused grammar, or even if it sounded good. I had my friend Andrea proofread my essay in …show more content…
Therefore, I credit my love for reading to my sixth grade teacher Ms. Rivera who made me and my class read Esperanza Rising, it has been my favorite book ever since then. Esperanza Rising was about a teen adolescent who went from having money, jewelry, etc. and then having everything taken away from her. When I read, I read to escape reality for a while. Stories fire my imagination and, for a little while it lets me live in the world of fantasy, instead of this often boring one, because in the world of story anything can happen. Reading has really expanded my knowledge by helping me improve in my vocabulary and the way I write. Before, I used to write really plain and boring and now I’m more open with my writing and it’s more than just prompt that I was asked to

I felt this sense of fear, but I knew it was just nervousness. It caused my whole body to tremble. I creeped onto the field and pass by the fifty girls and all of the coaches. Just me walking by everyone gave me this ginormous knot in my stomach, it made me feel like I was going to pass out right on the field. I was breathing heavy, like I just ran a marathon. I was beyond nervous just to be the new girl on the field. I was scared of what the girls thought of me, and how the coaches thought I would play and adapt to the sport. I had never even picked up a lacrosse stick and the girls were passing, catching and shooting on goal: how does a new player get to there if they were two week late into the season? I was terrified I would never get to the level of the rest of the team.…

I was seated in the rear end of the Olive Garden, which all in all was pretty quiet, save for a kid's occasional outburst. About halfway through my pasta, an elderly couple sits in front of me and my family's table. They take their order and proceed normally. Then ten minutes or so after they had been seated, two men, probably fresh out of high school sat down with them. One of the two was slightly taller and gave the shorter a reassuring look. From my table, they were facing forwards with their backs to my table so naturally, I was able to see the moment they cautiously held hands. I smiled to myself, it’s always nice to see a couple getting more serious. This was probably the first time the shorter guy had introduced them. The shorter was…

During this pass September of 2016, a traumatic event unfold before my very eyes. I was visiting my aunt’s house because I feel home sick. Honestly, I feel like family sick; my aunt is like another mother to me. I spent the weekend there in North Miami, and I just finished saying my goodbyes to my cousin. As I am walking down the street to the bus stop, I was digging through my pocket for my headphones. An accident happened right in front of my house. Two cars going the opposite direction end up in front of my house. The accident caused one of the cars turned to fast, instead of waiting, and hit the other car directly. The speed of the collision cause the car flip over one side; the other car block the two way and was damaged in the front. My cousin ran out the house to see if I was okay. The accident happened literally two minutes after I walked out the house. People from around the neighborhood began surround the flipped car. A lady from the other began to screaming because the other person in flipped car was trapped.…
