Personal Narrative: Different Haircuts
The reading reminded me of my childhood, whether it was the different haircuts I sported or the different clothes I wanted, none of it truly ever mattered to me. I would say, as I grew older, for the most part, I did not care what other people thought. Leading into high school, all I needed was one pair of shoes and a good sweater and I was set everyday. If anything, my sisters and my parents cared more about what I was wearing than I did. In middle school, my classmates around me would wear Jordan's and designer clothes, yet, I was content with my shoes from PayLess and my various jackets and sweaters from downtown Paterson and Passaic. This stays true to myself today, I usually sport my shoes given to me for Christmas years ago from my sisters, and a sweater with my university logo on it, or a plain black jacket or sweater. I would label this experience as positive, since I saved both my parents and myself money which was spent on more important things, and I relied on a more personal fashion sense which showed my personality and creativity.
I choose a random magazine, there was a "People's" magazine on the table in my living room, so I choose to use that one. I flipped through and came across a Paco Rabanne cologne advertisement, it pictured a man in a suit, surrounded by a woman who appeared to be painted in gold, the same as the color of the

I personally believe this a dangerous precedent to set. Censorship is a very serious topic, as an American, I believe in freedom of speech, and it would be very easy for this test to get out of hand. There are alternatives, reaching out to these publications, tv networks, stores, and letting them know how we feel about these certain advertisements, and ask them to use more appropriate themes. Or, creating campaigns to raise awareness and letting these companies understand with what they know best, their business and our

So to look down upon youth who choose to wear there clothes a certain way isn't necessary in some cases. This causes teens to detour from their goals in life because of the worries they have at home. Who wouldn't want to graduate high school, attend a college or university, suceed, and go on to have a professional job doing something they love. On a day-to-day basis instead living life unsecure and not live on a steady income. Everybody wants security in life, it just so happens some people go about having that security in the wrong way. I also agree with another statement that Judge Mathis makes in this article that suburban sociteys may also listen to the same music as urban socities. Urban socities tend to believe that everybody is on the same boat with lesser oppurtunites. But at the end of the day they go back to superior schools and more stable households that not everybody has had the oppurtunity to…

How an individual dresses impacts how he or she is perceived in the eyes of others. Often times, the way an individual appears in public leaves him or her open to becoming labeled either favorably or unfavorably. Members of society will often judge an individual’s appearance therefore denying any opportunity to know the “inner person.” In today’s society, some of the socially acceptable ways to dress seem to include wearing pajamas in public venues, wearing revealing outfits, and wearing pants so low that one’s underwear is clearly visible. The contents of this paper discuss attitudes and whether or not wearing such outfits is acceptable in society, in workplaces, and in schools.…

I looked like a walking trash bag and these days the way you dress is how you are judged. Whether you are treated with respect or complete contempt can depend just on your clothing. So I knew I needed to change, I asked sister Olivia whether we could go and buy some clothes for me. I think she also knew that I could not go like this, so we had hailed a taxi and went on our way to a clothing store.…

Personal style is the form of communication that has to do with the way one chooses to project their image outward through dress, hairstyle, and accessories. A person with a 3-foot, pink Mohawk and wearing a leather motorcycle jacket with studs on the collar is going to convey an entirely different message than someone with a trendy haircut in an Armani suit would. Even though appearances can be misleading, one must take into consideration that it is natural for humans to stereotype one another, and the image projected is often taken at face…

In some cases, judging a book by its cover is important when going to a formal event and first impression are everything in this present era if not, since the dawn of human existence. We often convey our messages or express our personality through through some form of materialism or through artistic creation. You can tell a lot about someone by the way they show their colors (metaphorically) or style of outfit, or accessories, and the thing they embraced. It’s understanding that we always want to look our best for some of us the things we value the most is how we fit ourselves into social norms and expectations through some degree or form of conformity and we use alternative ways of conveying our message sometimes as elaborate as owning a mansion…

In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, before Laertes leaves for France, Lord Polonius advises his son Laertes that, “The apparel often proclaims the man”. This quote states that people in general, form judgements, based upon what clothing a person wears. In today’s society, we still see the same type of judgement happening! People are judged on a daily basis for what they put on their bodies. Whether it’s a way to express yourself or just your style; women and men of all ethnicities, races, and sexual orientation are subject to being judged based upon the clothes that they…

In these days, some societies judge people based on their class, if you are poor and act differently then they see you below them and if you are rich than you are more important and well recognized. In my opinion I agree with this that the author is saying, we all tend to judge and criticize people on how they dress or how they look, I have even found myself doing that and that is something worthy of being ashamed of. We shouldn’t judge people on their looks or their…

My hair is force to be reckoned with. Its cascading fury flurries around everything, my shoulders, my back, the chair that catches it in its unwavering maw. It’s strong, it lasts through any torture I force upon it. It falls out in clumps and chunks when I tug and pull too much, but mom says that’s normal because my hair is so thick. I have the fullest head of hair in the family, she likes to tease. She’ll affectionately twirl it between her fingers and create little ringlets that fall down and tickle my chin because I didn’t pull it up into a messy ponytail.…

Ever since I was a baby my mum always either braided my hair or put it in a ponytail. At the age of 7 my parents started me in swimming classes. I always wore a swim cap but the water still got under my cap. If my hair wasn't braided my mum would have to shampoo and deep condition my hair when we got home. In 6th grade my mum relaxed my hair and soon regretted it. Since I am very athletic my hair was even harder to upkeep than before, so I decided to stop relaxing it and grow my hair out, causing it to break off. In 7th grade I was able to take part in school sports. I participated in track and field, wrestling, and soccer, whilst still swimming in the summer. Sweat, dirt, rain, heat, humidity and the list goes on. I was constantly worried…
