Personal Narrative: Babysitter
When I get home from school, my parents are all dressed up. It looks like they're going to a wedding so I ask, what's the need for the nice outfits? And they reply by saying they're going on a date and have a babysitter coming to watch over me. I didn't really like that I had to be home with a babysitter because I am already 12, but I didn't complain because I knew they don't want to have to cancel all because I'm having a fit. About 30 minutes after they leave I see the babysitter pick up the phone and start crying.

I ask her what's wrong and she says that my parents have been in a car accident and are at the hospital. Tears fill up my eyes and we both rush to the car. As we leave I think of all the worst possibilities, what if they don't remember me, I couldn't imagine life without them. As we enter the hospital we ask what room they're in and the doctor at the front desk say room 314. We take the elevator up to the third floor and find their room. He tells us that the surgery failed, and that they passed away. The feeling I had that day was unexplainable, it was dreadful, horrible, unforgettable. After they had passed I didn't know where to go or who to stay with so I ended up staying with my aunt and 2 cousins. They were fun to be around and helped me get through the tough times. I stayed with them for about 3 years until I finally found a job and bought a house with my friend Kyle. During those three years I went to the same school my cousins did and I made some friends. Kyle and I were like brothers and it was great to find someone who liked the same things I did. Having a house wasn't too hard because I made decent money working

It was 2009 and I had been in sixth grade for a couple of months. I was on the phone with one of my friends from school when my mom called through my door for me to come out into the living room. I ignored her and kept talking for a few minutes when she called me out again. I rolled my eyes and told my friend I would call her right back. I walked into the living room and it seemed odd to me that both my sisters and dad were all out there too. I watched my mom take a deep breath with my dad by her side. As she began to speak her voice shook and gloss covered her eyes. “The doctors found a lump in my last mammogram.” she said. “It came back as cancer. I’m going to have to get treatment but I’m going to be okay.” No one else said a word, we all…

I didn't get to see her much at the end, I was too young to go in the ICU. I just remember my sister being the one that told me. I was sitting on her bed and she told me that grandma Grace has passed away. I was too young to really comprehend what was happening. I thought it was a joke, until that day I saw her lying there. I went up to her and told her to “Wake up.” My mom told me, “she isn’t going to.”…

We all mourned together for the next few days. During those few days, I noticed how everyone in our family accompanied each other, and how close we all became. I now realize that family is the most important thing, and they will always be there for…

I am sure you find many letters coming across your desk from parents who have taken the opportunity to ‘brag’ about their child. I know mine won’t be the best, but I hope that I do my daughter justice at the end. As most parents do, especially with their first child, they keep a folder of milestones their child has reached throughout their years; a folder filled with report cards, love letters, photos, school projects, etc. When I look back at one of Morgan’s Kindergarten project “All about Me”, I couldn’t agree more with the saying on the front of her book exclaiming, ”There is nobody in the world exactly like me!”. It’s exactly how I feel about Morgan.…

Eileen Kennedy-Moore once wrote, “The path of development is a journey of discovery that is clear only in retrospect, and it’s rarely a straight line.” Although the development to which she is reffering may not be specific, the complexity and sometimes unpredicable nature of children may definitely be summarized by this short quote. As humans, we begin as tiny beings with barely any ability, but, as we grow, we develop into creatures of play and imagination, of right and wrong decisions, and of motivation for the tasks we face in our day-to-day lives. As an Early Childhood Education student, I often have the opportunity to volunteer and to observe a variety of organzations, classrooms, and programs. For this particular class, I was able to analyze a classroom-like environment at the YMCA for children of all ages, and I compared these observations with the appropraite topics of this course.…
