Personal Narrative: Alumnae Network
Joining Theta as a freshman was exciting because it brought with it the promise of growth within a group of women who always worked extraordinarily hard to become the best within our chapter. Two months ago I was charged with the awesome responsibility of Alumnae Engagement Director. As a new chapter Belmont has a smaller Alumnae network, and it has been difficult to get a strong foothold with this position. We’ve had three wonderful examples of how to grow this position, but I have made a personal and large amount of care into further growing and strengthening this role. Nashville has a huge alumnae network and Belmont is in the unique position of having two chapters within our city to pull alumnae support from. Rarely in our past though …show more content…
Coordinating joint chapter dinners, attending lunch bunch meetings, and now planning a larger scale community service project I am in a fortunate position to truly enact change within my chapter and our alumnae chapters. This position however is not stagenet within Nashville. As a resident of Connecticut I have a large community of Alumnae home as well, and take advantage of these multiple opportunities to grow strong alumnae and active relationships. Over my winter vacation I participate in a service opportunity with the Fairfield County Alumnae chapter, and look forward to growing that relationship over the summer as well as continuing to grow the relations between Eta Phi and the Nashville Alumnae. We are only active members for four years of life, and the duration of being an alumnae can stretch as long as 75+ years, as Theta is for a lifetime. It is our great honor to learn from and engage with our alumnae as active members and being within this position has helped to restructure this in my life. Theta helps to influence many of life’s journeys in unexpected ways and this new era of my Theta journey has helped me to revalue and rethink the weight we should place on relationships in our

The 100th piece of the “Wellesley 100” was, indeed, the most important part of Wellesley: the truly unique and diverse student body that can be found nowhere else. The picture of the wildly shouting students is so vividly captured that they pass their heating passion on to me across the page. I could picture myself among the very different yet united community, swept by the fervor, cheering and shouting “Go Blue!” The intimacy with the talented and dedicated women from around the world makes up one of the most special experiences available at Wellesley college, provided through the loud singing of class songs, dressing up in house colors, and finding new family and home at Wellesley. The intimacy with the talented and dedicated women from around…

to advocate on behalf of FCCLA to Missouri Representatives and Senators. I was among a select few from across the country who were able to experience the opportunity to serve on behalf of all FCCLA members. It was a humbling experience because I realized if I, along with other FCCLA members, would not have been able to share why we are so passionate about the organization, then we may not have received the essential funding we need from the government. This is the perfect example of how I understand what being a socially responsible leader is; being a voice and advocate for the things I am passionate about. If I believe something needs to be supported or change, then I will be out there advocating for the issue and making a difference. Not only have I acted on behalf of FCCLA, but I have also taken action on issues in my own community, such as fighting childhood hunger and collecting donations for the children’s hospital. Similarly, the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership is contributing to the greater good like I am. Furthermore, I value dedicating my time to solving issues and contributing to the well-being of…

As the leaders, our main job is to promote school spirit. We are in charge of notifying the student body about upcoming events from sports to band to academic quiz team. This is usually done through Twitter. Mrs. Davis trusts us to not post anything negative or inappropriate. We follow up the notification by having one or more of the leaders attending our events where we lead the Hawks’ Nest. But most importantly, we must make…

Sigma Alpha Sigma- a name foreign to those apart from my educational setting. A vast amount of students throughout my school follow this name, seeking leadership experience or someone to be led by. Despite a lack of recognition, Sigma Alpha Sigma possesses drastic influence on the community and on the pursuits of education. As a timorous freshman approaching a dauntingly large high school, I was thrown into an abyss of unknowns. My freshman year, I noticed the Greek letters of Sigma Alpha Sigma pass by, reflecting as if they were fluorescent signs. This organization, I learned early on, was crafted to remove the gap between students and teachers while empowering the future leaders of the world. Sigma, to me, has been one of my most significant…

I am interested in membership in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. because I love what the Deltas stand for. The organization is filled with strong ,college educated Black women, who in my opinion want to change the world. This is of immense importance to me because this is what I consider myself doing and trying to do. I want to change the world starting with my black community. I admire the strong sisterhood because I look around at the other sorriotys and notice that even though they claim sisterhood, there is not always proof of that. I have witness first hand that the Deltas is sorority that stays with you past college and continues throughout all of your different phases in life. I continued to build on this by becoming a student ambassador, where I spend either 4 hours or even the entire night with a prospective student, showing them the campus and all of the glorious opportunities here. As a result of this personal growth, I was privileged to be selected as one of the inaugural shift leaders at Alumni Gym. I am now one of the point-men for any questions or concerns relating to the gym. By becoming an RA I hope to continue this personal growth, becoming more and more well-versed and meeting more and more people on Union’s campus. Additionally, I will be gaining critical skills that I believe will enable me to be successful in life particularly being a leader around students that are either my age or not much older or younger. I anticipate many issues, especially relating to having to be the smart person when my peers are being unintelligent and ensuring the safety of everyone else in my building and around campus. However, in order to grow, one must be faced with challenges, and it is how that individual confronts those challenges that determine how that individual will grow. The leadership opportunity that the RA position provides not only will provide me with immense growth, but will allow me to…
