Hawks Nest Argument Essay

On August 16, 2017 my principal, Mrs. Suzanna Davis, selected four seniors, including me, to hold the responsibility of being the Hawks’ Nest’s leaders. Out of a senior class of 642 students, she only picked four. The Hawks’ Nest is the name of our student section and student run spirit crew. Mrs. Davis loves school spirit so having leaders she can have confidence in is of great importance to her. As the leaders, our main job is to promote school spirit. We are in charge of notifying the student body about upcoming events from sports to band to academic quiz team. This is usually done through Twitter. Mrs. Davis trusts us to not post anything negative or inappropriate. We follow up the notification by having one or more of the leaders attending our events where we lead the Hawks’ Nest. My first thought when I was told that students were drunk was “how am I going to tell Mrs. Davis and not have my peers hate me because I ruined their night.” They could face disciplinary actions through the school or even legal actions. At that time, all I did was send a direct message to Mrs. Davis on Twitter that said: “The water guns are filled with alcohol.” I decided that my integrity and my responsibility to the school were more important to me than my classmates’ thoughts. I doubted that she saw my message right away but in the event that she didn’t see it, I decided at half time to find her and make her aware of what was going on. Once I talked to her, I felt accomplished. I knew that I had made the right decision. Mrs. Davis got the police officers providing security at the game to remove the offending students from the student section. I made it fairly easy for them since I gave Mrs. Davis names and faces to look for. She and the officers escorted several students out of the student section and kicked them out of the game with consequences to be addressed
