Personal Narrative: A Career As A Writing Arts Student

Upon enrolling into Rowan University as a freshman I had no idea of what it really took to write as a professional college student. I had written multiple essays in my English classes back in high school that were consider suitable to my several English teachers. I struggle here and there in high school but I never gave up on my writing even when I was always criticize of how bad my grammar was. In the back of my head I knew I was not a great writer and for the next four years in college that was something I wanted to change about myself. It was then I decided to become an education major with dual major in liberal studies. I was told I needed two pick two different sequences as part of my major. Therefore, I decided to go for a weakness and a strength. I chose writing arts and Spanish. Upon enrolling into my first writing arts courses I was very nervous and intimidated by my peers. Unlike them they were enrolled in the writing arts major or sequence because they felt passionate about their writing, unlike me I was just attempting to expose myself to not just get an understanding of what writing really was but to become a better writer myself. During my first writing art class Introduction to Writing Arts it was then I was introduced to the different aspects of writing and what was going to be expected of me for the next for years. They call these aspects the “Core Values”. In the beginning I failed to incorporated in my writing what these several core values was asking of me.
