Element 3: Performance Appraisal Plan
At the beginning of each year the Tanning Salon Assistant Manager will meet with their head store manager and set their goals for the year. Each manager will evaluate the Assistant Managers by using Management by Objectives (MBO.) The Tanning Salon Assistant Managers will be involved in setting the goals so they agree that the goals are achievable, realistic, specific, concrete, & measurable. The tasks and duties section of the Job description contain the basis of the evaluation. The following will go into specific expectations and goals the Salon Assistant Manager will be evaluated on. 1. Provide excellent customer service with a smile on a daily basis. The assistant manager will be evaluated subjectively by ten random customers every month using a five point rating scale. The Goal would be for each assistant manager to be an average of 4 and have zero 1’s and 2’s. The Customers evaluation:

2. Complete required tanning training to ensure customer safety. There will be an extensive two week tanning training course. The decision of completion is objective because once the employee completes the training they will receive a certificate and be approved to work in the salons.

3. Assign work schedules, following work requirements, to ensure quality delivery of service. Complete the schedule for all subordinates monthly two weeks prior to the beginning of the month. 4. Inspect work areas and tanning beds to ensure conformance to established standards in areas such as cleanliness and maintenance. A following the shift, random checking of the salon cleanliness will be performed by the manager. The following subjective checklist will be used:

5. Train Salon Cleaners in proper operational procedures and functions, and explain company policies. Based on the training the assistant manager is required to provide for the salon cleaners, the salon cleaners should able to perform all duties. Their results will be evaluated based on the same checklist above. If there are any Unsatisfactory or very unsatisfactory marks the manager will investigate whether or not the salon cleaner had been taught the proper procedures or not.

6. Motivate employees by in incorporating a teamwork atmosphere on a daily basis. This will be evaluated subjectively by using an evaluation form filled out by all other employees. The following checklist will be used:
