Pearl Harbor Persuasive
Tora! Tora! Tora!

Pearl Harbor is probably one of the greatest known battles in history. It was not really a battle because of the one-sidedness by the Japanese. This slaughtering of Americans was uncalled for. The United States Military knew of the notions of the Japanese long before it occurred. The United States Government just sat around making futile attempts to create peace between the United States and the Japan. The United States did not want to accept the fact that they failed in their talks with the Japanese Government, and thus, were blinded by the fact that Pearl Harbor could and should have been prevented. The first pieces of information that could have helped prevent Pearl Harbor was the sightings of the entire Japanese

On the seventh of December in the year 1941, the American naval base was attacked by Japanese fighter planes. Following the death of over two-thousand American soldiers and sailors, Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war upon Japan. After decades of conflict with Japan the United States became another country to be officially involved in World War II. One of the main reasons for tension with the country of Japan is the contrasting styles of dealing with Japan’s neighbor country China, Which was in war with Japan since 1937. At the time of Pearl Harbor, American troops were not expecting an attack from Japan, let alone so close to home (History.com Staff par. 1-3). This major attack on United States soil was a very crucial part to World War II as it initially got the U.S. involved in the midst of the conflict.During an Interview with Scholastic, witnesses Hubert Gano and his wife Margaret Ellen Gano replayed the events that transpired. “ A very loud explosion rattled our windows.” “We rushed outside to see a string of airplanes in a shallow dive toward the ships at the end of our peninsula.” “We could see red anti-aircraft tracer shells floating up toward the lead aircraft.” “I could see the "Rising-Sun" emblem that decorated the side of the aircraft which identified them as Japanese.” over two years after Pearl Harbor occurred, the United States put a stop to World War II (History.com Staff par.…

There is various reasons for the bombing of Pearl Harbour by Japanese forces. The Japanese had had a trade embargo placed upon them after their continual aggression in the China and south-east Asian region in their race for more land and resources. They felt that this left them with two options either continue South in the hope of securing more land and risk war with America or accept the US demands of retreat. Japan decided to attack the U.S. first in the hopes of prolonging their ability to be able to fight in the war and thus decided to destroy Pearl harbour the major U.S. naval base in the pacific. The Japanese had both political and strategic reasons those political reasons included reaffirming pride in the Japanese navy and the showcasing of the weak western society. Strategically Japan hoped that by attacking Pearl Harbour they would be able to prolong American entry into the war and establish a strong hold in the pacific islands.…

The attack came on December 7th of 1941. This sparked anger in Americans everywhere. Almost immediately, the United States was officially in the war and no longer neutral. In my opinion, and not just because I am American, I believe it was a horrific decision when Yamamoto planned to bomb Pearl Harbor. First of all, all it did was completely enrage a whole country and ensure that you (Japan) have gained another enemy.…

The attack on Pearl Harbor was an effort by the Japanese government to deal a decisive blow to the U.S in order that the Japanese could invade the Southern Pacific Islands and Australia, to capture and have access to the materials they needed to continue to power their war efforts, because with our fleet destroyed in that region, it would have cleared the way for them to get what they…

These two facts were that the United States was very overconfident and Pearl Harbor was in no shape to become in battle. It was very evident to the rest of the world that the United States was a very powerful country at the time of world war two. Other than the Axis powers, almost every country wanted Americans on their side. But the bad part about this was that even the United States knew how powerful they were. It was almost as if the United States really didn’t care if anybody hated them because they “knew” that nobody would really attempt to attack them. And this conceited attitude of the United States was the main cause of the second fact of how the United States was unprepared for a Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This second reason was the state that the naval fleet of Pearl Harbor was in. Yes Pearl Harbor was a very strong military base, but it was over 2,200 miles of ocean away from any other source of United States military aid. And this fact was very enlightening for the very great Japanese Admiral, Isoroku Yamamoto, who was eager for a war with the United States. Yamamoto had realized that in order for Pearl Harbor to have full military strength, it would take over a year due to the fact of the United States neglecting their own defense system at Pearl Harbor. Even though he did acknowledge the power of a full strength United States military, he knew the…

Military Prospective: (7December1941 1800hrs) “Tora, Tora, Tora” were the words of the Japanese Commander upon the attack on Pearl Harbor, explained the Sergeant Major(Sgt Maj).I was a Private First Class in the Marines I was stationed on U.S.S Enterprise as a pilot for the Grumman F4F-3 Wildcats. Immediately after the rumors were leaked, curiosity got the best of these young and brave soldiers. The mess deck grew silent as the Sgt Maj explained what happened on the morning of 7December. “At approximately 748hrs (Hawaiian time), the first wave of the 353 fighter, bomber, and torpedo planes attacked Pearl Harbor. It was said that the Japanese chose to attack on a Sunday was because they believed Americans would be more relaxed and thus less alert on a weekend. When the Japanese Aerial Commander called out, ''Tora, Tora, Tora.'' (which meant Tiger, Tiger, Tiger), it was a message to the entire Japanese Navy informing them they had caught the Americans by surprise.” Sgt Maj stopped to sip a drink of his water. “Who planned this attack?”, asked one of the Privates. “Rumors said his name was Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto who initiated the plan the attack on Pearl Harbor but it was a Commander under the name of Minoru Genda who carried out the mission. The mission was first named ''Operation Hawaii'' but later changed to ''Operation Z''. 353 Japanese aircraft took-off of 6 carriers.” After the news was spread, the soldiers ate in silence.…

History has been affected by the attack on Pearl Harbor and has been shown through many Eyewitness accounts. Dale Speelman, an eyewitness of the attack, said in a speech, “by attacking Pearl Harbor the Japanese fired the spirits of the American people to relentless reprisal” (Speelman 6). What he meant by this was that the attack brought Americans together in the decision to join in World War II. He also said, “The ultimate goal to all of this was to gain access to oil, tin, rubber and other resources of the area.” Although, this may have been their goal, the attack got rid of most resources, which affected the cost of them to rise in places that received those resources in America. Unfortunately, the attack had brought America into some challenging situations according to these eyewitnesses.…

The attack on Pearl Harbor was seen as a massive success in some people’s eyes, but in others it was seen as a massive failure. There were a few goals that japan were trying to get out of Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harbor was an attempt to try and scare the Americans. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in hopes that is would destroy the US pacific fleet. They thought that the defeat at Pearl Harbor would be so devastating that they would give up strait away. The Japanese thought that once they had defeated them they would sink deeper into isolationism which meant that they could rein free and take over East Asia. The attack on Pearl Harbor back fired for the Japanese because it didn’t make them fall apart, it made them stronger, to become…

So, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, in 1941, the United States reactions was justified for violent reaction, because of the attack by the Japanese. However, the people from Japan, may claim valid reason to attack, because of "Right Intention," but the United States action of dropping two separate nuclear weapons on two different cities, was an unjust war and extremely evil (Mattison). So, USA was justified in defending their island, but became unjust after the first nuclear attack, because it became responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of women, children, and men. Destroying Hospitals, Churches, and Historical sites, which is illegal under international law or the Geneva Code of Conventions, but this happened before the United…

During the early 19th century, Pearl Harbor was not used for large ships due to its shallow entrance. The interest of United States in the Hawaiian Islands followed its whaling and trading ships in the Pacific. As early as 1820, an "Agent of the United States for Commerce and Seamen" was appointed to look after American business in the Port of Honolulu. These commercial ties to the American continent were accompanied by the work of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. American missionaries and their families became an integral part of the Hawaiian political body.…
