Orthodontic Care Essay
Orthodontic care treats conditions such as crowded or crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, disorders of the jaw joints and incorrect jaw positions. The best time to have these problems corrected is between the ages of 10 and 14 because during these years, the teeth are more conducive to straightening and the mouth is still growing. There is a variety of types of braces that give the same results, and you child may be able to choose the type he or she likes.

For several reasons, some adults did not get the orthodontic care they needed as young children, so the problems were never corrected. This can cause many other problems with tooth decay and gum disease. In addition, poorly aligned teeth are not attractive in an adult. For these adults, the right time for orthodontic care is whenever they can get it.

This may happen because of overcrowded teeth or a bad bite also called malocclusion. When the top jaw and the bottom jaw are different sizes, they do not meet properly. If the top jaw is larger, it is called overbite and when the lower jaw is larger, it is called underbite.

It is recommended for children to begin to visit a pediatric dentist around the age of one year. A pediatric dentist will follow a child’s tooth growth and monitor when the baby teeth fall out and where the adult teeth grow in. A pediatric dentist may be able to tell you when it is time to visit an orthodontist to be sure you get the proper treatment early. Some orthodontic problems can be treated faster and easier if the treatment starts early.

• The chance to correct any bad habits that may cause future orthodontic problems such as thumb sucking.

• The chance to see how the permanent teeth are developing.

• The chance to lower the risk of damage to protruding teeth.
