Hunters and Gatherers~
● Humans first sustained themselves as hunters & gatherers
● Hunters were responsible for killing and capturing animal and using their hunt for food, clothing, or tools; Gatherers were learned how to tell which plants or fruits were edible
● Early technology consisted of shaping stones into tools and weapons for hunt
● Mostly nomadic societies that had a migration pattern depending on the movement of game and/or the seasonal growth of plants
Major Migrations:
1. East Africa→Australia→Middle East→Europe→Asia
2. Asia→(Land Bridge)→The Americas The Neolithic Revolution:
The Revolution~
● In 8000 B.C.E. human beings began to develop settled communities
● Settling was based on successful cultivation of crops and domestication of animals
● the revolution itself occurred independently , in various locations, over a large time period ● Each agricultural hearth developed different farming practices that worked with their own land features
Revolution Outcomes:
1. There was a more constant food supply now that people started controlling food production and animal domestication.
2. With greater availability and easier access to food sources, much more people were able to eat. This resulted in longer life spans, and an i ncreasing population
.
3. Specialized jobs such as priests, traders, and builders are created considering not everyone is needed for food production
4. Women became responsible for raising children, cooking, and cleaning, while men controlled agricultural production and worked. This resulted into patriarchal systems
, where males became dominant in family life, the economy, and the government. 5. Settled peoples considered themselves superior when compared to the remaining hunters and gatherers, creating social distinctions between the two groups.

In a new study titled “The Mark of a Criminal Record,” sociologist Devah Pager investigates the link between possessing a criminal record and obtaining employment. Building on research conducted by Schwartz and Skolnick (1962), Pager specifically attempts to isolate the effect of the social stigma on criminality, which she terms the ‘credentialing’ aspect of the criminal justice system, using a comprehensive experiment that takes into account numerous entry-level job types and racial disparities. The ‘audit methodology’ used to conduct the study involved the use of four participants – a team of two similar black males and a team of two similar white men – who applied to a total of 350 employees. By alternating which member of each team presented…

Around 10,000 years ago, women scattered seeds near a campsite and returned the next season to find new crops growing. A large supply of grain helped to feed a bigger population. This became known as the Neolithic or agricultural revolution. When is population started to increase, hunter gather struggled to find a large amount of food in a short period of time. This is when farming started to gain popularity because it provided a steady source of food. One farming technique was slashing and burning. Groups would cut down trees or grasses and burn the field. The ashes acted as a fertilizer for the soil and more trees and grass began to grow. Another thing that humans learned was to domesticate animals. Hunters knowledge of wild animals helped with this. People in present day Africa grew wheat, barley, and other crops while China discovered rice. In Mexico and Central America, the people there grew corn beans and squash while people in Peru grew tomatoes, sweet potatoes and white potatoes.
