'On The Sidewalk Bleeding'
Disagreements within one`s thoughts and actions are normal part of being an individual. Inner conflict means that the mind is confuse and doubtful. This struggle is within everyone due to pressure or influence of peers or the media. In the short story,"On The Sidewalk Bleeding", Andy finds it difficult to express his true self. Similarly, the barber from "Just Lather, That`s All" finds it difficult to make a choice in expressing his thoughts. Therefore, Andy and the barber experience internal conflict as a result of deep, reflective thoughts on important life decisions, eventually discovering their true identities.

    The setting is in the spring, at the park. While sitting on a picnic table Lane and Sheri are faced with the dilemma of going through with a scheduled appointment for an abortion. Lane is torn between what he knows is right and what he wants, which is to be free from the burden of raising a child with someone he is not sure he even loves. Bucher points out the division and dichotomy within the story such as; “two great and terrible armies within himself”, “Two-hearted”, “their shadow a two-headed thing in the grass before them”, the downed tree being “half-hidden” in the water. The dichotomy suggests a dual struggle between two things: good vs. evil and division vs. union.     In both short stories, authors use first person point of view and appropriate foreshadowing to address the writing topic. In Lather and Nothing Else, as the narrator, the barber describes his psychological activities vividly, "I was secretly a revolutionary, but at the same time I was a conscientious barber, proud of the way I did my job"(pg344. Tellez),namely defining himself, explains that shaving beards is his job and what he is known for, which foreshadows the decision he makes finally. In The Bicycle, “The second thing she forbade me to do was ride on a bicycle. Tanta Rose had hurt herself badly once when she was pitched from a bicycle”(pg35,Horton),Tanta Rose’s great fear of bicycles affects Hannah directly , it provides a chance for Hannah’s treachery psychology grows up and foreshadows the actions Hannah takes after. By defining herself, Tanta firmly believes that bicycles are dangerous and she has to keep Hannah away from the troubles. In the Rug Maker by Najaf Mazari, Najaf is put through numerous difficulties at every walk of life, but he deals with every situation in a positive way. Firstly, when Najaf was 12 years old, his eldest brother and father -figure Gorg Ali , was brutally shot .Najaf’s entire family was moaning over the loss of Gorg Ali, and felt hopeless. In spite of this situation, Najaf knew that if he didn’t work, the family will have no support and therefore went to the carpet factory six days a week and worked extremely hard.
