Of Mice And Men Prejudice Analysis
Prejudice
“Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.” (Maya Angelou). Prejudice comes in many forms and it affects people very differently. Prejudice is negative feelings for someone or a group of people, its discriminating them because of the group that they are associated with. Some forms of prejudice includes racism, sexism, and homophobia. The victims of prejudice are affected way more than the one who is being prejudice. It affects them mentally, physically, and socially. Prejudice is almost always based off stereotypes and when someone forms opinions off of stereotypes they are discriminating against them.
One form of prejudice is racism. Its when someone makes negative

Even in today's society people still like to assume that people who are mentally and physically handicapped can't do the same things normal functioning people can. In the book there was a quote that stated “I used to play jokes on him. I had fun with him. I used to play jokes on him because he was too dumb to take care of himself.”(Steinbeck 40). Some of our greatest minds are handicapped such as Stephen Hawking. He is a world renowned English theoretical physicist, he has proven that people who are mentally and physically handicapped can achieve the same things as any other individual.
Of mice and men was written a long time ago and demonstrated a variety of prejudice comments such as racism, sexism, and degrading of mentally handicapped people. Prejudice is still as big of an issue as it is in today's world as it was when (date move of men was written) I don't think that prejudice comments will ever go away because it is how we judge people and judging is something that we are wired to do. It has now become a part of a normal way of thinking and will be passed on throughout the generations. “The human mind must think with the aid of categories… We cannot possibly avoid this

“Prejudice is a great time saver. You can form opinions without having to get the facts,” stated author E.B. White. If someone is prejudice towards another, they view them as if they are a dirty animal, they belittle them and do not believe they are on equal grounds. The story “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck and Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s television series, “South Park” share similar messages about prejudice.…

Stated by Jane Austen in the novel Pride and Prejudice, “ There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see the world, the more I am dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and the little dependence that can be placed in the appearance of merit and sense” (Austen). No one fits into the idealistic world exactly. It is human nature to discriminate and conclude opinions on other people for their disparities, which is called prejudice. Prejudice is exemplified within Of Mice and Men in both language and actions of the characters, but what does prejudice really mean? Prejudice limits a person's ability to process information, and to judge others…

Prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Prejudice has existed for as long as mankind can remember, and sadly it's not going to subside. In the past, people have either witnessed or experienced prejudice. It can be traced back to when women were not granted the right to vote, based on the fact that they were women. On the other hand, prejudice occurred during the Holocaust, where prejudice was directed mainly towards Jews. Not only did prejudice take place in the past, but it still transpires today. Today, people assume someone is gay, based on the way they act. Prejudice is directed towards them. On the other hand, people assume that all tall people or all blacks are superior at basketball.…

Prejudice is defined as a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird,” written by Harper Lee, the adolescent characters, Jem, Scout, and Dill, all learn about prejudice through the different experiences they face. They experience racial prejudice during the trial of Tom Robinson. They learn about class prejudice through the ways different people are treated in their small town. And, they learn about gender prejudice when people stereotype Scout and the way she acts and dresses. Throughout “To Kill a Mockingbird” prejudice is a very strong topic because it changes how people treat each other. This theme of prejudice affects people of different races, classes, and…

Discrimination happens to be exhibited in many different ways and can be portrayed in all sorts of settings. Some of the reasons people discriminate are because the other person has mental or physical disabilities, women, the elderly, and people of different ethnicities. This is unfair to the people who are being discriminated, for the fact that they often did nothing to provoke this negative feedback. Living with disabilities would be rough because you have to cope with your disability and then deal with your peers making fun of you. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses the theme of discrimination throughout the book to illustrate the injustices inflicted upon three specific characters.…
