Observation In High School
Lee woke up sore. His chest hurt like someone rammed into it, his head hurt, his vision was blurred, and he could think straight. He saw that he was in a dark room. His clothes were damp and moist and there was a center light above a table. There was a glass mirror too his left and a steel wall to his right. An interrogation room, then the door opened. Out stepped a man with a buzz cut and a US military uniform. This man look pretty tall with his sheriff glasses. He looked like Hudson from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. As he stepped toward Lee he pulled out a metallic silver chair from the table and sat. All Lee could see was the reflection of himself in the man’s glasses. He was about to be interrogated.

So today you are with the Institute of Villainous Education aka I.V.E. You will be taking a tour of this school today and then be expected to attend your proper classes tomorrow. Is everything clear?” Everyone looked at one another, unsure, but still followed the man into the elevator. How 20-30 people fit into one elevator Lee could never know, but as the elevator went down it withstood the weight. As the group went down kids whispered about what they saw on the landing/launch area. The elevator came down to the bottom floor with a ding and opened. As the kids started stepping out Lee started counting. twenty-four kids in all and one “teacher” that went out with them. As the instructor walked he explained the certain, labeled rooms that they past. One in particular was the submarine maneuvering. This had to lead out into the the open and to freedom. Lee wasn’t planning on staying in this so called I.V.E. The hallways where tight corridors of metallic metal. It was something a Star Wars movie corridor. As the group went past the Stealth and Evasion room they took a right into an auditorium where the teacher instructed them to sit in any seat that they liked. Lee and Josh sat next to each

"The bell rang and we went to our next class, each of us knowing our classmate was in the locker, but none daring to open it up to let him out. I don't know if he yelled for help, if he banged on the metal locker to get our attention, or if he remained mute like that woman in the movie 'The Pit and the Pendulum.' Her locker was riddled with sharp spikes ready to pierce her when she could stand no longer. So he had it way better."…

I have really enjoyed my practicum hours, observing and learning from the counselors at West High School. Many of my observations surrounded graduation and A-G requirements. Several of the counselors were going through the transcripts of their sophomores and juniors to see if they were still on track to graduate. Then, they would call in those they needed to meet with and talk to them individually. The solution for several that I sat in with was to add a zero period class. The counselors took two days to call in all of the English classes. They went over the differences between high school graduation requirements and A-G requirements needed to enter a CSU or UC school. Then, we handed out their transcripts, went over their gpa, and…

The March family had gone to the cafeteria to get something to eat just before Kenny was moved to the I.C.U. Information processing has two areas: innate ability and acquired knowledge (Bee & Boyd, 2010). A lower IQ can compensate for acquired knowledge. People with higher IQ’s will perform better than a person with a lower IQ. This also applies to student learning. Children with a lower IQ need effective strategies for processing information. These students have to acquire a vast amount of information on any subject before they can perform as well as their peers with higher IQs.…

During this lesson, I was able to observe not only the classroom teacher, but also a student teacher from Texas A&M. As the student teacher was explaining to the students what a truism is, the teacher was pacing around the room as she spoke with the students about their essays. The student sat in their desk the entire period, listening and learning about how to correctly write a truism.…

Officer safety, movement and use of physical space has been preached to students from semester one and it was not until this class that brought its importance to light. In this class, we are able to put everything we have learned in theory from our first semester to now in our forth semester into practical real-world scenarios. During the first round of scenario testing I observed a group that had a male and female officer they were on duty and had calls of a homeless man lingering around the ATM machine asking people for money as they were withdrawing funds. During the scenario, the officers failed to scan the area for any weapons that could be potentially dangerous to them or anyone else. I learned when they did not incorporate the interview…

During my first round of practicum, I went to a kindergarten classroom with around 20 to 25 students in the classroom. I went to Miller Elementary and Mrs. Schuchard was my cooperative teacher. I walked in and was immediately placed with students to work with. In the morning the students were working on their daily five and phonics. One thing that I observed that I found very interesting is that the teacher had two rug areas for meetings. When she needed to teach the children for a longer period of time, she would tell them to move over to the other area in order to make them have a brain break and then refocus. It was very interesting to see how effective just a little amount of movement was for these kindergarteners.…

It was obvious that Ms. Brown had created a plan for this lesson by observing the progression of the skills that were being taught and that they were presented in a logical order that aided student comprehension. Both the students and the teacher were familiar with the skills and the delivery. She also posts lesson plans online. Objectives and expectations of the lesson were communicated to the students on a special place on the board, at the front of the class with essential questions and " I can" statements. Ms. Brown was able to gain the students' attention for the lesson with a hook type activity. It was an engaging question for the student to answer that was related to the topic. Students worked independently, in pairs and in groups and read a selection either by themselves or with another student. The material was then presented in a graphic organizer by the teacher with illustrations and relevant examples provided by the students. They also read the selection (either our loud to a partner or to themselves) and then the material was displayed in the form of a graphic organizer for the visual learners. Ms. Brown used PowerPoint to present the material.…

“In an effective classroom students should not only know what they are doing. They should also know why and how.” Harry Wong is an educational speaker that tries to help teachers be able to not only educate their students, but also teach them how to comprehend and logically think. Even at Tell City Jr.-Sr. High School, there are a variety of different types of teachers; moreover, this affects the atmosphere of their classrooms. Many outsiders may see our school as boring and being the same as any old school. For the students, every single classroom has a different atmosphere that they either love or greatly dislike.…
