Name of Topic: An Investigation into the roles and responsibilities of the Accounts Clerk in the Accounts Department at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank.
After completing this research, the researcher hopes to be able to: 1. To find out how the clerk’s in the Accounts Department maintain the company’s accounting records for statutory, regulatory and management purposes.
2. Identify the duties, responsibilities and attributes of a clerk in the accounts office.
Two functions of the Accounts Department are:
a) Reconciliation of Accounts: At the end of an accounting period, whether monthly, quarterly or yearly, there might be some disparity in accounting records as a result of adjusting entries. It is the responsibility of the clerk to reconcile all outstanding accounts. b) Preparation of statements of account: At the end of each month the Accounts Clerk is expected to prepare statements of account for all customers who have received goods on credit. A statement of account summarizes transactions on their account during the period and acts as a reminder to the customer to pay any outstanding balances.
