Dear Board Member, My name is Andy Struttmann I am currently a junior in high school. I am writing to you to voice my concern about the recent tragic events involving gun violence. First off I want to voice that I am an avid gun user and value my rights as every American citizen should, but I ask when should the line be drawn for what guns should be available and who should be able to purchase and use them. Even though the number of murders per year has been annually decreasing I still believe that some new gun laws need to be put into place. That would include more detailed background checks for people who want to purchase and use weapons. Also it should be illegal for a college student to be allowed to carry a firearm on campus even if it is conceal and carry. Letting guns be on campus is just an all around bad idea. There have been tragic events in the past involving students and firearms on college campuses and I personally would not like to see another shooting at a campus just because a student was allowed to keep a firearm with them. It says in the article written by Darby Dickerson in 2011 that “students should not be allowed to carry guns on college campuses” after reading the article I fully agree with Mr. Dickerson. I also read the CNN article called “How the NRA wields its influence” the article stated that there will be absolutely no new gun laws, which in my mind should not be the case. Maybe if there were more gun laws and better background checks many of the tragedies that have happened in the recent past including the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School late last year would not have happened. I am not saying that new laws will completely erase gun violence from our great country, but maybe it will help. I know that new laws will not stop “crazy individuals” from buying firearms somehow I just think it should be much harder to obtain them. Like I

Between the end of World War II and through the end of the 1960’s American’s enjoyed a time that was full of material comfort due to the power of the American industry production. You could look at it like a foot race. On the line you have places like, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Russia, and Japan, going against the United States. Halfway through the race every country gets shot in the leg except the U.S. We still have two good legs and so we take the lead by a long shot. We start to feel bad so we help the other countries make it to the finish line while they help us in other ways. This meaning we provide them with the goods they need but for a good chunk of change. Places like Europe and Japan start to recover from World War II and the…

Why did I choose Ronald Reagan as the topic of my president report? He is one of the very few great presidents America has ever seen. In his 8 years of his presidency, he freed prisoners held in Iran by previous president Jimmy Carter, lowered the unemployment rate, ended the Cold War, and the list goes on and on which proves my previous statements.…

Guns are a double-edged sword when it comes down to it. Guns provide many people the ability to feel safe and protected, while other guns are constant reminder that some freedoms are taken too far. Guns privileges are abused, misused, and mistreated. Young people glorify toting weapons like it’s a new fashion statement. Missing the fact, that what in reality is causing uproar and panic amongst everyone else. That is why I feel like guns should not be allowed on college campuses.…

More guns on campus or not? There is a huge controversy about guns on college campuses. Recent studies show how blocking student’s ability to carry a firearm makes colleges and universities some of the safest places in the United States. Depending on an individual’s views, there are many arguments that can be made for both sides of the controversy. My personal views on guns and concealed carry are the total opposite. Having learned about firearms at a young age along with training and practicing for years. I have learned how to handle them and use them proficiently. Having guns on campus would help deter an active shooter. A college or university would no longer be known as a gun free zone. Increases in suicides are of a big concern but I believe…

One of the biggest debates in the world ever known for today is the restriction on gun control and weather or not government and Obama should take away gun control or leave it alone. Just since 2013, there have been over 143 school shootings in the United States. Just in 2015, there has been over 45 school shootings in the United States. In some states, new laws have been added stating that if you’re going to buy a gun, you will need a background check. They do this for the safety of other people but not only that; but for the safety of that person as well. The United States government as well as Obama is on the debate on weather to add more strict laws for gun control in America.…

Ever since school shootings on campuses many people have been skeptical about guns in the wrong hands of people. David Burnett writer of "Students Should Have the Right to Carry Guns on College Campuses.", agrees with the fact that students should be allowed to have guns on campus, for the use of self defense, for decreasing the crimes committed, and because colleges aren’t as safe as you think. Although Darby Dickerson writer of "Students Should Not Be Allowed to Carry Guns on College Campuses.", is on the other side arguing that concealed carry laws increased violence on college campuses, guns on campus lead to bad accidents and homicide, and that even though college kids are mature enough to have guns their brains are still…

Due to the recent rise of school shootings on college campuses, debates on whether guns should be allowed on college campuses or not have started. Students should be allowed to carry guns on college campuses because people should have the right to self-defense wherever they may be, gun-free zones only protect killers since the laws ensure they will face no resistance, and merely the appearance of a firearm dissuades an attacker.…

America is widely known for having a fascination with violence and is a “gun – happy” country. However, this love for firearms has led to tragedies untold and horrifying truths about the mental state of individuals as revealed in the Columbine School shooting incident. Major and minor causes collectively led up to this event and bring up the question of whether or not this tragedy could have been prevented. The NRA play a key part in the debate over gun control, and parents play a vital role in instilling future generations with respect for handguns and being involved in their lives. Though there is room to consider a grey area guns continue to be the instruments used to sow sorrow resulting…

Gun ownership is strongly guarded American right, but recent gun violence demands that lawmakers make the changes necessary to control guns more tightly. The National Rifle Association (NRA) demands that we protect our second amendment of the right to bear arms; however, major modification is needed. The U.S compares horribly to other countries in our statistics of gun violence. Recent shootings, such as the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, or the Aurora, CO movie theatre shooting, tell us clearly that we need to put some control on this. Even the fact that juvenile use of fire arms is even is existence should be enough to wake Congress up, and make them realize something needs to be done to protect U.S citizens.…

14 dead, 21 wounded in San Bernardino. 9 dead in Charleston, S.C. 12 killed, 3 injured in Washington, D.C. 27 killed, one injured at Sandy Hook Elementary. These are just a few examples of tragic mass shootings that have plagued the United States in recent years. But Why? Is it because the gun Laws in this country are too lax? And Guns are just too accessible? I say No, there is greater issue at hand than America’s gun laws thus, any amount gun control legislation will not stop the gun violence and we must vote against it. Too often gun control proposed as thee solution to stop all the tragic mass shootings. I disagree, infringing on the right of Americans to bear arms is not the answer, Keeping guns out of good law abiding people is not going to stop all the violence, I believe that just the opposite is true. Some may object saying, “America has more guns per capita and more gun violence than other nation, so if we decrease the number of arm citizens would also decrease the number of deaths caused by gun violence and make our country safer.” However this objections and others just like it are just not necessarily true.…
