No Doubt: A Successful Career
No Doubt is one of today’s most successful and influential, eclectic, retro sounding American rock bands to have hit the radio waves in the last 23 years. No Doubt is a garage and ska inspired band that hails from Anaheim, California. They formed in early 1987, with original band members, Gwen Stefani, John Spence, and Gwen’s brother Eric. While playing small venues around Anaheim, the band managed to pick-up bassist Tony Kanal, an India native who was raised in Great Britain and the U.S. The band was soon rocked and devastated with the sudden suicide of fellow bandmate John Spence in December of 1987. Gwen Stefani became the loan lead vocalist and they quickly added guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young. While in the midst of having some of the best times of her life with having such a successful career, Gwen found herself dealing with the break-up and fall out of her marriage to Gavin Rossdale. Their break-up and the brutal details of his scandalous affair with their nanny made headlines with multiple magazines and social media sites. Gwen took all her hurt, pain, sorrow, and heartache and poured it into her hit single “Use to Love You” which was released in 2016. In the video for that single, you can clearly see the hurt and pain in her eyes; it was real and it was evident how Gavin’s affair hurt her deeply and broke up their family. The hit television show The Voice has become Stefani’s second family. She has been a judge on that show for three different seasons and is where she met Blake Shelton, her now newfound love.
