For those who believe, Religion is one of the most important things in our lives. Whether a person is an atheist, a Christian, or a Buddhist, what we believe is a large part of who we are. Religion is a guide for me, it’s necessary for me because without it I’m lost. I was raised by a southern woman. Reading the bible, going to church, and praying were not an option growing up in my household. I remember being about six or seven years old when my mother began to incorporate the bible in our daily lives. From Sunday school, bible study, vacation bible school, and summer camp, we did it all.
As I got older, my mother gave me options. I still had to attend church every Sunday however, I didn’t have to be a part of every activity going on in the church. Now that I am an adult, I will confess that I do not attend church as much as I would like too. I do talk to my kids about the Bible and how they are suppose to carry themselves and treat others according to his word. We pray together as a family, and I know that is okay, however I have no real reason as to why I am not in church as often as I should be.

Chances are if you grew up in the south, then you most likely have been to a church service before. I remember as a kid getting the wakeup call every Sunday morning from my mom, “Get up and get dressed for church!” Even if I did not feel like going, she would drag me out of bed and make me go. Anne Lamott writes about the same thing in her essay “Why I Make Sam Go to Church.” Lamott wrote “Why I Make Sam Go to Church” in 1999 as part of a collection of autobiographical essays in a book called Traveling Mercies. My main reaction to this work was a positive one. I thought the essay was eye opening in a sense and it shows that everyone needs guidance and help from others sometimes.…

For as long as I could remember, church three times a week was a way of life for me. From a very young age, bible scriptures were instilled in me, almost like affirmations that were supposed to wash over me and make sense...They didn't. I learned that God didn't make any mistakes, not to question what I was taught, that God designated me male at birth for a reason. As I got older and began to embark on my gender journey, The scriptures I was taught no longer seemed applicable to my situation. They felt hollow and meaningless to me, because there weren't any specific passages on…

Much of my upbringing was very traditional. I was taught to obey my parents and to make them proud of my actions. From an early age religion, the union of family, harmony, education, and truthfulness were instilled in my life. These values were all very important to my parents and now I see myself teaching the same values to my children. Religion played a big role in my upbringing. So from the age of four I was placed in Catechism of the Catholic Church, which is basically religious education. Catechism was just as important as my general education in school, so I attended all the way up to the end of high school.…

Plagiarism is an issue for some students because it is an easy way to complete work. It is a problem that occurs all around the country and affects students’ education tremendously. Education is always at risk when plagiarizing because one is not learning anything. Students who plagiarize should deal with consequences in order to lose the habit. Plagiarism is not original work, therefore it deserves a failing mark or zero. Teacher, Christine Pelton did the correct thing by punishing the students that plagiarized.…
