NEWSPAPER READING HABITS AMONG SCHOOLTEACHERS
ABSTRACT
Newspaper, the mirror of the day had a crucial role of informing the changes that is occurring in the world. The teaching community, in their pursuit of molding a new generation should also be updated of the happenings in the globe. Newspaper reading helps the teachers to be aware of the world they are living. This particular study intends to understand how teachers read newspapers and how they interact with students about news items.
INTRODUCTION
Reading habit refers to the behaviour which expresses the likeness of reading of individual types of reading, and tastes of reading (Sangkaeo, 1999) .The newspaper reading habit help the teachers to make students be aware the world they are living. The class room interaction intends not only the pouring out syllabus to the learners but also a democratic space of discussions and debates. The healthy environment of such class room depends on the reading habits of the teacher. Newspaper reading among teachers is crucial to make the learners to be more active towards social causes.

OBJECTIVES
To study the newspaper reading habits of the school teachers
To know why they read the newspapers
To study about the criteria of newspaper choices
To analyze the time the teachers spend to read the newspapers
To learn the most prominent items the teachers read in newspaper
To find out whether the teachers interact with students on the current issues that they read in newspaper
METHODOLOGY IN BRIEF
A Sample of 100 school teachers was randomly selected from Thrissur district. The schools include both government and private schools. The sample includes 82 female teachers and 18 male teachers. The researcher administered a questionnaire survey among the teachers. 55 teachers from schools in urban area and 45 teachers from rural area are selected. The researched prepares questionnaire and interviewed the teachers personally to understand their newspaper reading habits. The data
