Imperialism has had long lasting negative effects on the countries in Africa. The reason European nations colonized Africa was for economic purposes and to spread their culture because they thought it was superior. By colonizing Africa, they did not do any good for the natives. The Europeans only concern was to benefit themselves, not to benefit Africa. The nations were not prepared for independence by their European power which lead to unstable governments and dictatorships. Their economies were changed to match the economies in Europe, but that led to high taxation and low profits to natives.
