Mildred “Babe” Didrikson Zaharias was arguably the best female athlete of all time. Larry Schwartz, in an article written for ESPN.com, tells us not only was Zaharias a gifted golfer, she excelled at many sports. She seemed to do it all – track and field, basketball, bowling, roller skating, tennis, swimming, boxing, and more. She loved athletics and competition as a child and never lost her passion for sports. She was a world record setter and a winning Olympian. If someone asked her if there was anything she didn’t play she said, “Yeah. Dolls.” In an age when female athletes were considered odd, even freakish, Babe Zaharias ignored society’s opinion and followed her dream – “to be the greatest athlete who ever lived.”…

“Never give up, and be confident in what you do. There may be tough times, but the difficulties which gave you face will make you more determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all odds.” This was what women’s Brazilian soccer star Marta once advised. Never giving up may sound like a goal that is impossible to reach in reality. Although that may be true, in literature there are characters who exhibit it ideally. For instance, Joan Bauer’s short story “A Letter from the Fringe” introduces a figure who showcases these traits. On a somber day, Dana, the protagonist, a high school student at Bronley High was tormented by bullies alongside her friend Sally for being overweight. Although, it seemed as if her heart had been torn out and thrown to the side, she was capable of forcing the two tyrants to flee. Afterwards, she insisted that they had no right to…

I am very eager to make it myself but at the same time bring all my peers up along with me. In order to make it big, you’ll often need assistance from others. I think the first step to help anyone is to support him or her. People need to hear that they have people backing them and standing by their side. I think the biggest deterrent of tackling anything is fearing that no one else thinks you can do it. If no one else thinks you can do it, you’ll often start questioning yourself and doubting your abilities. People need to hear that they can do it, it’s a mental thing. The mind is a very powerful thing.…

I interviewed my mom about how she feels of being a peak performer. And she thinks that in a way the secret of her success is to have prudence, to have common sense of everything, and good judgment of the situations that you might be in is an important thing. Perseverance is another key for success. To be persistence in adhering to a course of a purpose is quite important in being a peak performer. Last but not least is to always give and do more than you can; in her own Spanish words “dar el fua”. An advice that she would give to young people on achieving success is to have discipline in your life. Punctuality is extremely important; you have to respect your time and others. And always to do what you want to do with conviction. She thinks that one of the reasons why most people fail to reach their full potential is because of weakness and not willing to follow your dreams until the end. Even though she is almost on the top of her hill her future goal is to be a successful woman in her business and in every “test” that the life might have.…

    Winning Isn't Everything

A well-known football coach once said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” This is the motto that many of the sport athletes we see on television and on the field live by. This motto can be a good motto or a bad motto to live by. I disagree with the statement “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing. There are many reasons that I could agree that the quotation is incorrect, but today I am going to argue three of my major points why this is incorrect. First, I believe that as long as you put your best foot forth then your always a winner, second, I believe that sometimes you need to loose to show you who you really and what you can do and to win you must loose and loosing motivates you to do better and makes you a greater team. To begin with, I believe that it is ok to loose sometimes as long as you know that you know you put your best foot first. Well some may ask the question well what do you mean by that? Well what I mean by that is your not always going to win but as long that you know that you put everything it to winning the game then you know that you are successful and there is nothing else you could have done to win the game. You can’t just use this quote just in sport, but this quote can apply to everything that happens in your life time. Many people go on different journeys throughout life and are successful. Most of the time you are never successful on your first try but if you give up the first time that you fail then you will never accomplish anything. For example Michael Jordan missed 62 free throw shots before he actually made 258 free throw shots. Well, you may ask the question why do you tell me this? Well I’m glad you asked I tell you this because if Michael Jordan who is one of the best basketball players that ever existed would have gave up because he missed 62 shots then he would have never made it to make the 258 shots that he made. So I can’t stress it enough how important it is not to give up when you fail the first time.…
