Narrative Essay Re-Enlist

Marching through the sick camp and seeing all those sick and injured men, a thought came through my head, I am going to re-enlist. This thought I knew for sure would change my life in America and in the trust in myself. That moment, as I was walking through the sick camp, reminded me as I was saying goodbye to my aging mother she said these words that I would never forget. She said for me to be a brave man and to fight for our country to be free again. The most important words that she said to me were that she wants to live in a free country for the last few years of her life.Many of the soldiers were missing their limbs and had very bad diseases. Others were just very ill, depressed, and missed their families.I have decided to re-enlist for
“ You miss your family and are concerned about your aging mother.” (Background Essay 141) The healthy army now grows sick from continuous fatigues. (Waldo 151) The army is usually healthy but now grows sick because of the dirty conditions. Dr. Waldo said “Heartily wishing myself at home, my Skin and eyes are almost spoil’d with continual smoke.” (Waldo 151) The doctor wants to go home but he does not because he knows he has a duty. Bare feet and nearly naked legs vomit all over shirt, (Waldo 151) This is describing the condition of us and that we still fight for our freedom for our families. This reason is causing me to re-enlist because I want my family and my aging mother to live in a free country. My thought is that it is important for other soldiers to re-enlist so their family can live freely.
On the other hand, some people say they are not going to re-enlist because of sickness and death. This point of view makes sense because “ The army which has been surprisingly healthy hitherto, now begins to grow sickly from the continued fatigues they have suffered this Campaign. (Waldo 151) However some people say there are more reasons to not re-enlist then there are to re-enlist. Therefore I am staying because I want to stay and fight for what I
