Narrative Essay On Airborne School
Airborne School The trials and tribulations we are faced with come into our lives to challenge the very core of who we are. They define our character and bring to light our true morals and values. It all started in the summer of 2012; July to be exact. For some reason, I decided that being a soldier in the U.S Army wasn't enough. I wanted to go above and beyond the expectations that others had set for me. When I first heard about being "airborne" it seemed so surreal. In basic training, we sang cadences about it but I never really knew what it was until I went through it. The course was three weeks of torture. The only rest I had began around 6pm when we were finished training, and the weekend. Georgia was as hot as Hades and we ran around eight miles a day, every day. Walking was prohibited no matter who you were. Running everywhere was the only option, and if you fell out three times you were done and they would send you home. I had countless bruises all over my body and I was so sore I could barely stand up. I constantly prayed for strength and used a tube of icy hot a day. It was physically and mentally demanding, but I didn't care what I had to do I wasn't going to give up. I had never wanted anything more in my life. I craved to have the airborne wings on my chest and to get them I had to complete five jumps out …show more content…
About half the people I had started with were gone. But I, the weakest of all of them made it to the finish line. My wings were pinned on my uniform, and I was so happy I could have screamed. I knew then that there was truly nothing in the world I couldn't accomplish if I wanted it bad enough. For me, this experience really showed me who I was and what I was made of. Nobody thought I was going to complete basic training to begin with, much less go airborne. It was an experience I will never forget and I can proudly stand here today and say that I am an airborne

It was just two weeks until school. And cross country practice started. The practices were hard at first but then the got a little bit easier. And time trials came. I was not looking forward to it, but when it came I was like “this is easy.” When school came, the cross country meets came, too. Boy are the meets fun! They were getting harder and harder at every meet and once I had to run two miles around a golf course. The abs workouts are hard still today, it helps me with other sports like soccer.…

Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…

As I ran that hill I began to cry because of the pain. I thought my legs were going to give out from underneath me. The pain I was feeling helped me take a few strides that caused me to stumble a little, but soon regained my composure. I was at the top. All that was left was one last final turn, and then the downhill. I could see the finish line in the distance and then started sprinting. Coach Rojas was screaming at me to keep going and not to stop. At this point, my heart was pounding rapidly. My body was worn down, hot and exhausted. Crossing the finish line was the only thing on my mind. For a moment, I blocked off from the race and thought about all the hard work that went into the season. I crossed the finish line and at that moment I knew that I had put my sweat and tears into this race. I couldn’t feel my legs, all I wanted was water. Soon after I heard that we won Second place in the district which was the best the team has won. I felt no pain at this point since I was part of a group of people who loved this sport and put effort into it. It gave me happiness to be part of a team that now was like my…

Trials and hardships test and shape us as we learn from our experiences of dealing with them in our everyday lives, increasing our inner strength and understanding. Trials and hardships such as minor inner conflicts like what to wear or what to eat for breakfast, to extreme external conflicts such as war. (eg. Terrorist attack 9/11 we can see how it has affected people positively and negatively). Although a person might not be aware of inner conflict, it is often revealed in their reactions. Reactions such as deny, avoid and escape. We pretend that things are ok when they aren’t and we pretend that we are ok when we aren’t. We avoid anything that brings us close to our grief and we look for ways to escape. Our escape may involve drugs, alcohol, people, work, overspending or over eating. Many of these examples can be seen in the lives of the celebrities that are plastered all over our media. Lindsay Lohan being thrown into a behavioural correction centre, marriage break ups such as Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s and mental breakdowns such as the few that Brittany Spears had. Actions taken in moments of grief and pain are often actions we live to regret. We panic and run away. We break a relationship. We forsake a commitment. We withdraw from people. We hurt ourselves. Just like these celebrities did. In some way we are always actively responding to difficulty.…
