Narrative Essay About Skiing
It’s the last day of 2014 and my family and I are out skiing in the Black Hills, SD for winter break. As an alpine ski racer, i generally like to downhill ski instead of cross country ski. But on January 31st, I make the stupid decision to go cross country skiing with my dad and sister. WORST DECISION I EVER MADE.

We had about a half hour drive to the rental shop for my dad and I to get rental skis. My sister already had skis because she races for the school Nordic team. Once we had gotten our skis, we started driving to the trailhead and my dad and I slowly began to re-think ourselves. We got to the trailhead, put on our skis, and after about 20 minutes of skiing around what we thought was a short loop, we got a bit concerned. We knew that

You may not think that this is such a big deal but when you have no clue where you are going, it's 5 below, it’s snowing heavily, and the sun is setting, seeing other human life is a good thing. Anyways, we talk to her because she is skiing fast enough we thought that she must know where she is going. But she doesn’t. Next thing we know we are at a T in the trail and have absolutely no clue which way to go. So we go to the right, and yep you guessed it, that was the wrong way. After about 25-30 minutes of skiing, we hit a sign that says “wrong way do not continue.” So we turned around. Thirty minutes later once we got back to the T, it was the first time the entire day that we knew which way to go. The other …show more content…
BAD CHOICE. After about 20 strides, I see some large mysterious paw prints (possibly mountain lion) in the snow. A few strides later, we see some fresh squirrel meat and all of us made the executive decision to go the other direction. Probably the fastest few hundred meters I had skied the entire day.

All of a sudden, our phones started to ring very loudly and when we answered, it was my mom, cousin, and aunt all calling from the cabin to see if we were ok. We said that we were fine and that we had just taken a longer trail than we had liked. But in reality, all of us wanted to just sleep. We continued on and at one point could see the highway about 2 miles out and just down a very steep cliff. The trail was running along the road so we figured they would meet at some point. So we just kept skiing.

Then we had noticed some freshly groomed trail, which makes it so much easier to ski. We knew that if the groomer started grooming after it snowed, it would have only gone a short distance out and back. So all of our faces just lit up with happiness. We had all started skiing a bit faster although my mom thought it was a good idea to call us every five minutes, which was actually just about the most annoying part of the entire day because I would have to stop, take off my gloves, grab my phone and answer. This happened all the time. Best part of the entire day,

It was crazy to start the hike with green grass but end up in snow and freezing rain and mud. On one part of trail we were hiking and fell into the icy cold river. We had to peel our boots, socks and pants and put our thermal gear on. Of course this brought on more rain. We sprinted down a large mountain while freezing cold with no boots or socks on. Everyone was miserable. We finally made it to our campsite, where we started a fire and listened to bugling Elk while staring at the stars. We woke up the next morning to three large Mule Deer looking into our tent.…

    2. A total of about 25 skiers plunged from a malfunctioning ski lift at a resort in Western Virginia on Saturday morning, February 20th. The more than two dozen people fell 30 feet from the lift at Timberline Resort in Davis when it was halted by a mechanical failure, as reported by Joe Stevens, a spokesman for the West Virginia Ski Areas Association. To celebrate my victory I spin in circles on my board. Moving my balance from both feet to my right foot the front of my board rises off the snow. While still spinning, I reach my right hand back to the tail of my board. The nose of the board elevates higher into the air. I can hear Alex getting closer. With the launch of one snowball I am thrown to the ground. My shoulder hits first. The impact doesn’t hurt but is enough momentum to make me slide down the powdered…

The first time I experience grit was when I first went skiing for my first time at Sundown, which is a ski resort near Dubuque. At first I did not like skiing, because I would always fall, but I was determined to be a good skier. By my second time at Sundown I started to get the hang of it. By my third night I could go down all the hills in a controlled manner, then I started to really enjoy skiing. I then found out if I keep on working and try my hardest on something it will always pay off in the end. Grit made me take something I dislike, and made it into one of my favorite things to do in the winter. Today I have been skiing for over 3 years. Even after I hurt my back skiing 2 years ago, I still went back the next year.…

First, Joe got the keys to his dad’s F-150 , which was loaded with snow tires and a snow plow. Joe conglomerated the snow into one massive, 20 foot pile, far bigger than ever before. The in-run was as big as a two story house. Looking up to the in-run, the top of the pile glistened with the orange rays from the sun creeping under the mass of snow. After the in-run was finished, we took out the shovels and built another snow pile, which was a few inches taller than my five foot stature. The four of us spent nearly an hour sculpting the jump and grooming the in-run to perfection. Lastly, we built the landing by piling another mass of snow nearly 10 feet away from the jump. Before heading in for hot chocolate and dinner, we froze the jump so that it would harden overnight. We finished at 9 o’clock, so it was pitch black; I had no idea what the jump looked…

About 2,500 miles east lies the cold and rainy city of Canton, Ohio. The majority of my childhood was spent inside the house as Ohio was not ideal for outdoor adventure. Although, after turning 6, I was introduced to snow skiing . It became an enjoyable hobby of mine for years. Skiing opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and the serenity it provided. I loved the smell of fresh air and the exhilarating feeling of gliding down the mountain. It is a very peaceful sport and provides a silence away from everyday life. Coincidentally, I learned of ski club in middle school where I could ski with several other students that enjoyed this exercise as well. I joined the club and looked forward to the weekly Sunday trips. It showed the importance…

As I glide across the snow feeling the cool crisp wind running through my coat. My dad and I always go up north once a year to go snowmobiling. Preparing for our snowmobile trip took forever. We always over packed and brought everything from sleeping bags, food, clothing, and gas for ourselves and snowmobiles, but when we were finished we hit the road. My dad drove in one truck with the snowmobiles and I drove in another truck hauling our camper for the three hour drive. That year was going to be different I knew it; we got more snow than we had in over 5 years.…

I can see the sun glistening off the snow covering the treetops as I glide down the mountain. Suddenly I feel a lot of snow sprayed on me as my dad speeds past in his usual perfect formation, as if he’s a slalom skier about to pass the finish line. He goes around a bend, following the curve of the trail, and skis out of sight. When I finally catch up to him I am shocked at what I see. My dad is getting up from a fall – he never falls – and both his skis and poles are scattered around the trail. In all his years of skiing, as far as I know, my dad has never been injured despite some careless falls. As I ski down to my dad I pick up his matching black skis and poles. I get closer to him and see a look in his eyes that worries me. I hide my concern and calmly ask, “Are you okay?”…

Skiing was not my forte or my favorite activity to do. My emotions were enraged at the way I tumbled down the slope. My body ached by falling and tumbling through the freezing cold snow and ice. Home sounded so marvelous right now, anywhere but here, my confidence had hit rock bottom. My face red and frozen from sobbing. I concluded that there was some other way down, nevertheless there wasn’t.…

On January 16th 2011, I was with my two brothers, Kasey and Brandon, and my sister-in-law, Alina at Wintergreen on an exciting snowboarding trip. We got there around 9A.M. and got right on the slopes. I absolutely love snowboarding and would never give it up for anything. About 5P.M. that night, my brothers and I were in the terrain park going off jumps, grinding, doing tricks, all that good stuff. The weather was very cold, and the slopes were pretty icy, but hey, what could be the worst thing that can happen? Maybe it could be a fall right on my butt, or a crazy wipe-out that could have given everyone a good laugh. Unfortunately it was neither of those. My brothers and I were playing follow the leader, they decided to dodge this jump, little did I know it was the biggest jump on the terrain park. I was going full speed and went off the jump, and then it hit me. I fell right on my back, before I knew it I was in the hospital with a broken back. The pain was absolutely excruciating. I ended up breaking my L1, luckily I was still able to walk, but I had to take it easy.…
