Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. Junior year was a big year for me. I switched schools, moved across the country to Palo Alto, California, and was living without my parents for the first time. I had to make friends all over again, and one of the ways I did that was by joining a Jewish youth group, NCSY. NCSY’s mission is to inspire Jewish teens by creating lots of events; some span for a weekend while others are for an hour weekly. One program in particular is called Latte and Learn where teens from the NCSY chapter go to a Starbucks for an hour, buy some drinks and learn a topic in Torah. Because my NCSY chapter consists of the large Northern California area, Latte and Learn has 2 locations so that members can go to the one that’s closer to them. With this still, the closest…

As a candidate for membership of NHS, I already possess the scholarship requirement. Throughout my years of high school, I have taken all honors classes, received honor roll, and tried to challenge myself as much as possible. When I received my schedule this past summer, I noticed organic chemistry was one of my classes. Many people warned me that this class was very difficult and would be a challenge, so my immediate reaction was to switch out of the class. However, I decided to stick with it and, to my pleasant surprise, I actually enjoyed the class because of the challenge involved. For my remaining year of high school, I will take more honors classes, along with an AP class. Overall, I believe every student should try their best to achieve everything they want academically. In my years of high school, I have strived to meet…
