College Essay My name is Augie Oropeza I came from a very humble home. Which consists of my mother and father, myself and two younger brothers. My parents had me when they were very young, eighteen years old. They both began to work and felt that their dreams of attending college were unattainable. I will be the first person in my family to attend college. Which is pretty exciting for me and my family. Growing up my parents did their best to provide for us and to give us the things we needed. Through this observation I have learned the meaning of hard work and sacrifice. I know that in life things do not come easy and you must work hard for the things you want. All of my life experiences have definitely shaped and molded me into the person I am today. My qualities would have to be honesty, perseverance and a strong work ethic. Some of the people who have positively influenced my life are my parents, my grandparents and Aunt Rosie. I am thankful for these people always being there for me. Football has always been a strong and important factor in my life. Since I was a young boy I have played football and have enjoyed it immensely. I have fond memories of my family and I gathering around the television and watching football. one particular memory that sticks out to me is when my dad and I were watching the Cowboys vs. Titans game I was so impressed watching the running-back. I vividly remember this moment because this is when I realized football is not only a hobby or extracurricular activity for me it has developed into my passion. I have learned many valuable life lessons through football as well. Such as discipline, responsibility and team work. I have accomplished many things in football such as I received the defensive player of the year award and also

Of course I ended up playing those sports, but I wasn't happy because I wanted to play football and nothing else. The years went by and I still did not play a snap of football and it was already the fifth grade where most kids have already played for years. Finally on my last plea my parents let me play football in the sixth grade. I played football in a youth league called PAFA (Palatine Amatuer Football Association), This is where I was taught proper technique and how to play the game safe. Finally, I was done with youth football, next up the big stage, high school football. My Freshman year went by in a blink of an eye, then came sophomore year my time to shine, and one of my favorite times in life.…

Also every year I got better and better. I got lots of tackles in football. This one time a player was running to the touchdown line and I ran as fast as I can to get to the player. Finally I caught up to him and I tackled the player before he could reach to get a touchdown. That’s what helped me stay in football.…

Football is my favorite sport, and the sport that I take the most pride in. I like the feeling of the team that stands beside me when I am on the field, and the comradery between me and my teammates while we are out there. I have created many friendships from football that I plan to hold on to. I also have learned life lessons to always get back up even if you have been put down. My junior year I had broke my hand the first game of the year on the very first play. I continued to play through that game and also refused to get anything done to my hand until it was unbearable.…

It was a Tuesday afternoon and I was just getting to my psychology class and as usual I was chit chatting with my neighbors in class, Cpl Christie and Fausnight about the things that each of us did this weekend. Just when I had finished talking to Kara (Fausnight) about her weekend our psychology teacher Dr. Douglas walks in. As she is walking in I in my peppy self- personality ask how her weekend went. Dr. Douglas then proceeded to tell me that it was "none of my business"…….maybe she was having a bad day or was really stressed out or maybe in fact it was "none of my business". She also told me that there was a certain thing called boundaries and that I needed to find out what that was. I felt dumbfounded to say the least. I've always been a real social person. Pretty much striking a conversation with anyone. So I was brain storming the other day and I was wondering about what to write my paper about. Just then the previous scenario came to mind and I figured I could intertwine me and how the influences that I've had throughout my life have influenced me and made me the outgoing, friendly, social person that I am. I'll attempt to do this by using Erickson's stages of development (Myers, 2005). O.k. we will start by looking at the infancy stage. Where an infant learns either to Trust or Mistrust people. I don't know how much is true but in talking to my parents they told me that ever since the day I was born I was such a crybaby. They also told me that I never wanted to be alone or have anyone even go as much as 5 feet from me because I would start crying and throwing a fit. The thing though is that most infants develop a sense of "stranger anxiety", which is the fear of strangers (myers, 2005). Me on the other hand, I would only cry when I was left alone, I was never really too afraid of strangers. One reason could be that ever since I was born I came into an environment rich with people. My dad was an associate…

I think a lot of my positive influences come from my familial support system and growing up with people who have such strong moral and convictions. From doing the exercise in 2.5 I have seen that my friends and family see more emotional intelligence in me than I see in myself and that I’m not as able to speak positively about myself as I’d like to be. When speaking about myself I usually talk about my political opinions, or my aspirations but I don’t speak very often about the positive qualities of my character and can sometimes be somewhat reliant on third party opinions to shape my thoughts on my…

It was the summer of 2013, and I was going to be a senior in high school, and like every other summer for the past 4 years, I spent the majority of my summer training for football. I didn’t hate it or else I would have quit the team and done something else with my life, but at the same time I felt as if we were given no break from football. It felt like it was an all year long sport. To me football didn’t just show me how to run the ball, how to catch a ball, and how to tackle. Football also gave me very many life lessons and experiences that I will never forget. Especially, one experience where I was racially profiled.…

After playing against other teams I realized how much passion is poured into high school football, now that is what really drove me to get better. The people you meet is one of the best parts of football, the relationships you form. The reason football has changed my life so significantly is because a football team is like a family, in a way they are like brothers you can always count on to have your back when no one else does. I wouldn’t trade football for anything else in the world and I don’t want to stop playing anytime…

I love Saturday morning during football season when I sleep over at my dad’s house because the whole day we would watch little league football games that he would coach. I love it because it reminds me how much I loved the game and how I played when I was little. I think that one reason I quit football is because I’ve always been doubted since middle school because of my height. Playing cornerback at the height of 5’1 covering guys 6’0 and above could be difficult but I didn’t let anything hold me back.…
