My daddy passed away in May 2008. However, there was much leading up to when he passed away. It was a difficult time for many years as in the summer of 2002, his left leg was amputated below the knee due to an infection that somehow got into his leg from complications from Charcot's foot. His right foot ended up being a Charcot's foot, too, but he never had to have it amputated. He wore a big boot on that one. Then, he had diabetes and a lot of other health problems related to it. For this paper, I really wanted to focus on my mother’s side of the family, particularly on my grandmother’s ancestors, whose history I honestly knew little about. I had a considerable amount of knowledge about my father’s side of the family, who I at one point I researched extensively, finding ties back to the American Revolution. It was with my mother’s side of the family that I had really never had the time to properly look at. To begin with, I spoke with my grandfather, who is a second generation American. I knew a little bit more about his side of the family as I had had the blessing to know my great-grandmother, Dorothy, while for a short period of time, until she passed away at the age of 96. I had known that she had lived in New York…

My assignment is to write about someone or something that inspires me. The obvious answer would be a relative such as my mother, father, brother, etc. Yes, my mother is my superwoman and my brother is my hulk, but I want to choose someone that has no blood relation and someone that I know God has placed in my life for a reason. As I sat and pondered on whom that person could be. Only one person came to mind and no matter what I did it stuck in my mind and I can truly say had every reason to. My mother passed on charitable traits to me. For example, whenever we see the homeless or the needy, we give a little of what we have even though it’s not much. I have always admired my mother’s devotion to her children, her selflessness, her generosity, and her optimism. There were times that I would felt that I couldn’t do anything effectively. I have never been the smartest, the most useful, or the most confident person, but my mother had always seen me differently and made sure I thought highly of myself. This nurturing experience has taught me acceptance of other individuals despite their flaws. She does whatever she can to help us…
