My Hunting Ability
If I had to choose one thing I was an expert at, it would have to be my hunting abilities. Yes, my urge to wake up at the crack of dawn and go sit in a tree stand for several hours. Now anyone with half of a brain would say that was insane, but in all honesty that is what keeps me motivated throughout the winter time. The excitement I would learn to have growing up over the years would not be forgotten. About seven years ago my father woke me upon a Christmas morning with a Remington double barrel shotgun, Even though Christmas was a time to spend with loved ones, I knew there was only one thing on my mind... And that was to shoot the beautiful rifle. The pearl blue coloring with the crystal lettering sent chills down my skin. Now my mother, an animal person, did not know about my father's gift, so as the day went on I could tell she was not pleased with his choice. Days went by and Christmas slowly disappeared, I knew I needed to get my hands on that priceless pearl, I just could not get up the courage to ask. Frustration crept in once I saw the other children playing with their prized possessions. "That's it" I exclaimed and stormed to the …show more content…
But one thing I'll never lose sight of is my mother making sure I was ready and mature enough to handle a weapon, because a gun is not an actual toy like most kids my age received, I also learned that it isn't a sin to hunt if you use the whole body for food and warmth. I will continue to pursue being the best at what I am an expert at, which is hunting. I will always know that shooting isn't just a sport; It's a way of life, because nothing can replace the smell of oak and fresh cut grass looking over hills of prairie land. When someone gets the chance to see nature and all of its beautiful wonders, I couldn't see how anyone wouldn't become a expert

Wearing the pearls felt different that day, as I clutched them tight in my right hand and held my sister’s hand with my left. Even though the sun cast its rays onto the congregation of people on the clean cut grass, the picture-perfect environment was a misnomer. Sniffles and sighs drained my head, and I felt weightlessly heavy. Three years have went by, and my…

All can relate to that one special time of the year, Christmas, when whole families unite and spend hours endlessly sharing stories, making memories, and of course, opening presents! What happens though, when all of the sentimental value of Christmas is replaced solely with physical value, the gifts? What would Christmas be like then? Richard Rodriguez takes the readers through one of his annual Christmases and brings to light, through his thoughts, the disconnect that exists between himself, his siblings, and his parents. Rodriguez’ chronological presentation of events with flashbacks, short, abrupt syntax, light-hearted attention to detail and concerned tone contribute to suggest his worried attitude toward his family.…

I felt the stock of my bow while I was sitting in the blind. Frost had already began to form where I rubbed it off seconds ago. I looked through the small window at the everlasting snow. “Wait, was that a deer moving along those trees?” I asked myself. It looked more like a kangaroo making its way through the snow. I could barely stand up in the cold. I pulled back, ready to take the shot.…

Jamie O’Meara believes that gun education in our schools curricula would benefit students by giving them a better understanding of the capability of firearms. In his thesis he tells a story of his first experience wielding and shooting a gun and how it made him feel afterwards, bored. O’Meara is trying to get the point across that once students are taught properly and have used a gun in a safe environment they would lose their curiosity about guns. This would better prepare students if there ever came a time when they would believe they would have to use one sometime in their future.…

Writing in general is not one of my strong suits. It is difficult to highlight my strengths as I feel most of my writing shows off my weaknesses. Because I had a growth mindset I never gave up I practiced without my father every day for three years. It was really cold out that day I remember shaking while perched up in my tree I wanted to give up so bad but I wanted to prove my dad wrong and show him that girls can hunt. It all started when my dad would show up at home with his trophies that he had killed. I always wanted to be like my daddy, I wanted to be a hunter, fisher, and a firefighter. One Saturday afternoon my dreams finally came true. My dad had gotten up very early to go hunting, when you hunt in the mornings you have to get up and be in your deer stand so that you won’t scare the deer, you have to creep in slowly. He had went hunting that morning and we had a very good piece of land off of Bringle Ferry Road, there have been many nice deer killed in there. Well my dad and the guy he works with lease it together, they both had gone hunting that morning. My dad had seen a few deer that morning but if there are does out there has have to be a buck around chasing them. It is mating season you know. He had a small buck that was chasing some does and he got a good shot and took it. It ended up being a 6 pointer.…
