My Grandparents
One favorite place from my childhood that I remember fondly is my grandparents' house. On one hand, its marvelous location is unforgettable to me. On the other hand, I have a lovely remembrance of all the fun activities my family and I did there. In addition, other memories include the delicious meals we enjoyed there.

To begin, it had a marvelous location. My grandparents' house was in Punta Cuna, one of the eastern beach cities in the Dominican Republic. The house was very near to the beach, on the top of a hill: for that reason, a fresh breeze was always blowing. It was surrounded by beautiful gardens and a huge back yard with many fruit trees on which lived a lot of birds that would delight with their trills. The view from all of the windows, which included the sea or the backyard, was marvelous. Also, my sisters and I could see the sunrise from the portal. Being a woken up by the sound of the neighbor rooster was my favorite. Not to forget the different aromas coming from the prevalent peddlers made you just want to savor all the different bouquets coming there my little pink bedroom window.

In addition, my grandparents planned a lot of activities to keep us amused. We and our friends used to go to the beach every morning, and sometimes we went in the afternoons too. We played a lot of board games such as dominoes, canasta, continental and monopoly. Also, we used to play outdoors for example we did races, played hide-and-seek, and took refreshing hose showers at the backyard. My grandfather would send us out on mini scavenger hunts around the yard for different things he would hide. While we would search for them he would change them locate and then yell out “ Your so freezing cold ; wrong direction” in creole, then start laugh. My grandmother would take us with her on occasion to the Marche aux Puces and we would go around and view the different Merchants who enticing fragrance would wake me up in the morning. At night we would lay under the stars

All the good moments that I once had with my beloved ones have a very special space in my heart. Some of the most special moments that I can know remember would mean nothing if I had not the company and warm of my family. Among all these important moments, I can know remember all the Christmas Eve, when my father and I used to launch fireworks and then would come with the rest of the family around the manger.…

I anxiously got out of my car and proceed down the cobble stone path that leads to the front door. The door seemed much smaller than I remember. ONE HOT DAY

It was a hot Labor Day weekend 1996. My husband, children and I lived in a Farm house built in 1864, one of the oldest houses in Lane County. The house had large plank floors, two front doors off the porch and large windows some with the original panes of glass. One door lead you into the Parlor and the other lead you into the Living room. A narrow hallway in the living room went to small winding steps that took you to a great room on the second floor of the house, this is where my kids had their bedrooms. The house was surrounded with the most amazing yard. The white picket fence enclosed a grape arbor, as old as the house, and underneath the grapes there were two small rope swings attached to the arbor for my kids. Outside the fence was a large orchard filled with apples, pears and plums: and a lovely garden that I planted each summer with corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, blueberries and raspberries.…

    Summer plan

In this passage I am going to describe one of my best memories growing up as a child. One family event that I always enjoyed doing and was always patiently waiting on its arrival was the family summer vacation. Our summer vacation wasn’t like many kids but we made the best by going to hang with our grandmother. Every summer every child in the world wishes to spend most of the time playing, eating chocolates & ice-cream and visiting the most exotic places of the world. Their dream is being full filled in their summer vacations. In these summers my parents planed to take me along with my siblings to our grandmother’s home that is situated in a small town named Elaine, Arkansas. We considered it as a great plan because growing up there for such a small time it would be nice to go visit again. For us, going down was the best thing that ever happened to us because our grandmother still stayed about 45mins away from us and we wanted to see her everyday almost. So the next day when school gets out for the summer break, we would run home and pack our bags and wait for our parents to arrive home to take us on our summer vacation. Our grandmother was very excited about seeing us as we were visiting her after such a long time. Our grandmother lived with one of our uncles and one aunt. The house was kind of crowded due to her having not enough room for everybody but she was excited about our stay and would always say “I love to have my grandchildren around”. Now don’t get me wrong but Elaine is a small and beautiful place filled with a lot of stores and different monuments to look at. There is a famous china man shop where most people would go and buy goods for their families. We use to always ask her for small amounts of money just to go to the store and buy snacks such as Little Debbie Cakes and drinks. One day my aunt’s friend came along with her daughter named Tasha to leave her at our home as she was going out of town for some important business. Tasha was the most...…

However, in I993, the rather fuzzy mental picture was replaced with a tall, intimidating figure, with surprisingly alert eyes that seemed to chisel through to your innermost thoughts. That was the year of the Big Trip. My family set aside the summer to travel back to the "homeland," Korea. For me, meeting my grandparents was the farthest thing from my mind. Visiting Seoul was more exciting. But it was just my luck that my grandparents lived in the small city of Chunju, all the way down the peninsula, and hours away from fun. At first, it was awkward, I really didn't say much to my grandfather because he seemed like a stranger. I had assumed that he played no role my life and so didn't bother trying to start a conversation. Instead, my brother, sister, and I made my grandparents' newly built house our new playground. We purposely spoke in English, blasted the radio, and used the intercom as a toy, singing songs into it while pressing the talk button. I thought that my grandfather was ashamed of us because he always had this disapproving look on his face. I was surprised to find out from my mother that the contrary was…

At least three times weekly we would travel a few blocks from our small house on G Street to our church on K Street to attend church service. I can still hear the piano music and the voices of the church congregation coming from inside the small old wooden church as we neared the church property. They named it the “Iglesia Bautista Mexicana” or as they say in English, the “Mexican Baptist Church”. It sat quietly surrounded by a Mexican community on K Street in Brawley. It was a small missionary church. On weekends, the pastor would take a small group of members to Mexico and travel to the out of town “ejidos” or villages to have services with the residents there. “Ejidos” are They would load their cars with Bible literature, toys for the children, food, and their musical instruments. The small old church was established around 1920 by the “Western Avenue Baptist Church” association, its mother church. The mother church was big and beautiful; it was much more elegant and a lot bigger that ours and it sat on the west side of town. Huge stained glass windows with images of the Shepherd and his sheep or the Mother and her child adorned its walls. Its finely padded pews matched the rusty rose color of the church carpet. A huge black piano and a handsome brown organ sat at the front of the church. Seasonal flowers decorated the preacher’s podium. The size of the church was breathtaking. It reminded me of the cathedrals in Europe, But, I only got to see this beauty during the church’s two-week Vacation Bible School in July. I never missed going to one of them while I was a kid.…

My grandparents lived in their house for over 50 years; it’s the same house that my father and his 5 brothers and sisters grew up in. It’s a small house out in the country, 20 minutes from the nearest town, with a lot of fields, wooded areas and pastures for the various animals that belonged to my grandparents. The house has 2 stories, and when my father was growing up there were only 2 bedrooms, one for him and his 2 brothers and one for his 3 sisters. My grandparents slept on a pull-out couch in the living room until the 3rd bedroom was added on about 10 years ago. Even though the house was small there was always room for company. My grandparents loved to have visitors and were always happy to invite someone in. No matter what time of day you came to visit, you were always offered a hot cup of coffee and some sort of baked good.…

I was born in a family where my grandparents and parents are all the knowledgeable persons because all of them had the chances to go to colleges. Therefore, when I was a child, they always told me that the knowledge will change people’s lives to a better level. Since the education in China is not supported by the government, so people have to pay children’s education by themselves. Today, as I grew up and I am going to graduate with my degree, I thank my family for their love and support over the years.…
