My Goals
I dance because its helps me express myself in a creative and unique way. Dance is a huge challenge for me and takes a lot of practice and hard work. It gives me something to try hard at and accomplish. I know I am not the best at dancing, but I will give it my best. I have only had a little bit of dancing experience, which was when I was younger. I chose to be in Meadowcreek's dance classes so that I could get the proper dancing skills and training required to be a good dancer.
After being in the class, I set myself some short and long term goals to help improve my dance techniques. My short term goals include being able to dance on rhythm with all the different types of music we will dance too, and to work and be successful with my dancing. My long term goals include having an outstanding performance at the end of the semester shows, and being able to teach others how to dance with the knowledge I gain in the class.
How I view my body, strengths, and weaknesses are greatly important. I view my body as unique and average. I could even exercise more to give me the energy to dance more efficiently. My strengths include not giving up and having a lot of confidence, even when I feel I can’t do it. I am eager to learn and feel that no matter how much training I need, I am still a great asset to the team. My weaknesses are not being good at keeping an eight count while dancing, and losing my concentration very easily.
I feel I can bring determination to the dance department. I mess up a lot during class but I never give up and tell myself I can’t do it. I push myself to the end for dance. I also don’t take dance as a competition to be better than anyone. I take it as something to enjoy and have fun with. I think the dance department is great, but with me it will be

The body is intricately made and can do amazing things. Dancers tap into the muscles of their body that many people do not know exist, much like athletes. A dancer trains hard, spends hours in the studio, is always looking to improve their skills, and engages in competition. The same can be said about football, basketball, and baseball players. People assume that dance is not as challenging or aggressive on the body as other sports. But I, as a dancer, can validate that it is just as hard and uses large groups of muscles to complete certain steps, or moves. Dance has potential to be classified as a sport by society, when all evidence and support is considered.…

Whenever someone asks me what I do, my first response is always “I’m a dancer”. Although this seems like a fairly simple answer, this means much more than a statement of my hobbies. Dance has been a part of my life since I was five years old. Ever since I can remember, I was in a dance studio surrounded by mirrors and a ballet barres. The classical music has become a part of my day to day soundtrack, I count in eights, and I live in leotards and tights. Stepping into a dance studio was like stepping into an extension of my home; which was always nice, because I moved around a lot as a child. I was born in Minnesota, moved to Wisconsin, then to Pennsylvania, and now I reside in North Carolina. I became accustomed to change, and learned to enjoy…

Dance played a major role in terms of helping me to accept the move from Australia to Shanghai and shaped the person I am today. This remarkable performing art consists mainly of two aspects, technicality and emotion. Technique can be determined through numbers. It refers to how many turns you can do, how beautiful your arch is, how high you can lift your leg. Emotion is what makes you special. It cannot be differentiated through numbers or figures, but rather through how you express yourself and how your performance makes the audience feel. Dance took these two aspects and blended them together to create one magnificent performing…

It seemed like somewhat of a small choice to me at the time- you see, I was the type of kid who wasn’t focused on any sport for too long. On my first day I was unsure of what was to come- I walked in slowly, and during class I was busying myself with the task of learning and remembering faces and steps, trying to keep up with both simultaneously. Within a couple of weeks, I was having much more fun than I anticipated. Four years later, and I still have the same infatuation with dance that I did back then.…

During this semester so far, I feel that I have grown not only to be a better dancer, but I have improved my performance quality in the classroom. As I am in my third semester of ballet II, I really want to focus on the things that I can perform better at. Although I do have goals for myself such as, fully completing a double pirouette on my left as well as a triple pirouette on my right, and strengthening my glute’s and hamstring more instead of gripping in my hip flexors and quadriceps when doing grande battements. Throughout the rest of the semester in ballet, I plan to fully put effort towards these goals so that I can improve and more forward.…
