My Field Placement
In my Field Placement I am working at the Edward Village Hotel. To date I have completed 124.5 hours at the front desk department. I plan on completing my field placement by November 9th or 10th. .Within the hotel we have two main suppliers which are Booking.com and Expedia.ca our key accounts and target markets are the corporate groups, and small tour groups. Working at a hotel made me realize how important some systems are to running the hotel, for example a system like Opera. Opera is the main operating system of the hotel it’s where we make reservations and check guests in and out.

As a Seneca student all the courses that I have taken have really helped me with my field placement and with my future career as a Flight Attendant. As a

A profitable hospitality business not only needs an efficient team of seasoned hotel management professionals, but excellent administration tools as well. An effective hotel management system can go a long way in ensuring efficient management of the complete hotel’s business. Apart from taking care of the administration aspect of the hotel, a hotel management system can assist you in management of inventory, reservation, sales and several other functional aspects of a hotel. Having a software custom-made for your hotel’s requirements can be a very costly affair; the better option is to buy a good off the shelf application which can be operated from multiple locations. However, it is important that the pre-built software application meets the following criterias:…

The courses that I have taken at Appling County High School that I think have helped me the most in my work and future career are Computer Applications I & II, Spanish I,II,&III, and depending on whether I teach or not Childhood Education and Graphic Arts. These courses were most beneficial because they help me prepare for my future work and taught me things that I didn’t know. Such as simpler ways to do things on the computer, how to handle children, and how to create business cards, letters, and all kinds of other things! The one that I think helped me the most was computer apps. Mainly because I thought I knew almost everything till I took that class.! Thanks, Mrs. Lamb.…

Max, a person very familiar with Argentina Suites took responsibility to manage the hotel and to make it a better place to stay. In doing so he went around the hotel to start asking questions. Max quickly discovered many flaws in the hotel, one being how inefficient the hotel is overall. Observing the work processes and procedures, he noted that reservations were taken by telephone and written in duplicate using carbon paper. This problem caused different companies and different individuals within companies to receive different rates. He found that the guest history system consisted of individual registration cards that were stapled to the reservation sheet. These cards were often lost. There was no interface between handling room inventory and handling guest information. There was no computer program that kept track of information about hotel statistics such as a profile of the hotel’s primary customer base. For keeping track of the amount of cash, credit card slips, and checks that entered or left the front office, Osvaldo, head of accounting agreed how it will be much easier and efficient to install computer systems.…

Birkenmaier & Berg-Weger (2000) explain that previous work experience and prior expectations may not prepare individuals for the field placement setting (p.87). This can be due to working in other areas, where different skills apply, not working for the government or organizations that are legally mandated. Without having experience working in government before, I had to establish standards, and understand the context that I am working in and a working style that I would have to adhere to. It is important to note that the working style can have implications for me throughout the duration of my placement (Birkenmair & Berg-Weger, 2000, p.88). Furthermore, having mandated areas of work provided guidance and emphasized the importance of the work…

When developing a professional identity, there are many factors which come into play. However, two of the most key areas involve the integration of personal beliefs and life experiences and facilitating training/ field experiences into one’s desired field area. According to Healey and Hays, “In order to merge the personal and professional, every arena of one’s life will be reflected upon as the new professional emerges” (2). In the second area of importance, to paraphrase Bryan (2009), one must possess a basic understanding of the desired working environment, and must obtain relevant field experiences and training in order to collaborate effectively in a specific community or field setting.…

Hello Martina! I wanted to comment on your thread, because I can relate due to my own field placement. While I do not work with children in school, I do work with children who may need referrals to outside agencies in order to obtain help. Therefore, when it comes to CIS, and doing group counseling sessions I feel it is a great option for children who meet the eligibility requirements. However, I can understand why children who may not be able to participate in the program may feel negatively about the program. Garthwait (2013) mentions asking your field instructor, “About external forces that shape or limit your agency, such as funding priorities and sources, community attitudes, client feedback, regulatory bodies, political pressure, and…
