My Favorite Book 'Point Guard' By Mike Lupica
One of my favorite books is Point Guard, by Mike Lupica. This book is about a girl named Cassie who has been the best at sports her whole life. She played softball and girl’s basketball, but her team always won. Eventually she got tired of everything being easy, so she decided that she was going to play on the boy’s basketball team this year. Her friend Gus Morales doesn’t know what to think of this. He doesn’t know if or why he is against a girl playing with boys. Throughout the season Gus has to resolve a fight with Cassie and deal with a teammate who makes from his Dominican Heritage. This book is about a kid named Michael who stops a robber named ramon by throwing a baseball at the back of his head when he runs across the baseball field Michael was playing on.     The book I read was written by Eric Walters and is called Juice. The book Juice was about a football Star named Michael Monroe (nicknamed Moose). Juice takes place in a small farm town in Georgia. The book starts off with Moose’s team winning the state championship. Which after they win later in the locker room Moose’s coach announces to his team that he has decided to retire from coaching. So it’s announced that a Division 1 coach, which is the level above Moose’s High school, is interested in coaching for this team if he receives money to redo the whole Football program. So this new coach buys all new equipment and a fully changed the state of the art training facility. To Moose and all the other Team all this sounds wonderful but they feel something is weird. This new coach even has a strength trainer that is going to work with them throughout the summer to help them get ready for the upcoming season, who also worked with professional football players. So as Moose continues to show up each day to lift weights and train this new trainer feels as if training the right way isn’t enough, and is starting to put some “extra” ingredients into the player’s shakes. So then comes the day when Moose shows up and this trainer pulls him aside to offer him some Anabolic Steroids. Now Moose is faced with the decision of taking them and being one of the best player to ever go to this High School. Or just working his hardest everyday to improve and being the best he can while being the true winner.     The Warrior Ethos by Steven Pressfield

    The book "The Warrior Ethos" written by Steven Pressfield is about what it means to be a warrior, in the present time, and also in ancient times. In the book it gives many examples such as the ancient Spartans as well as modern day war fighters such as the Marines. It also discusses the differences and similarities as to what the warrior ethos actually means to the individual, as well as to the unit. The author breaks the book into three parts, academies of war, the external war, and finally the last part, inner wars. These three parts essentially start from the ground and work their way up. The academies of war is basically giving examples of real stories where military members showed the meaning of the warrior ethos. For example, Pressfield brings up that in ancient Greek times, when King Leonidas chose the three hundred Spartan warriors to march on Thermopylae based on their wives and mothers. He knew they were going to die and he chose the warriors based on how their families would react to the war effort. Positive reactions from the families of the fallen soldiers creates a positive reaction in the populous. The second part, the external war, is exactly that. How we implement the warrior ethos in an actual battle. The author elaborates on how militaries that are born and raised in harsh environments tend to thrive when they go to battle somewhere else that is less demanding of them. He also discusses how battles and struggles bring soldiers closer and create a brotherhood that is like none other, in the sense that they will die for each other without hesitation. The third and final part, inner wars, is about what the warrior ethos means to each individual, and how it is almost always the same for each person. At first mentions that as warriors, we must always been mindful of consequences, because unlike civilians, consequences are very real in our world.And in turn, we must temper our "brute aggression" with…

    The next review that was written by Basketball Dad on theMDsports was similar to the first one. He talks about how long it took to put it together and basically says you better give yourself a lot of time. He talks about his three kids playing with it and that they love it and get a lot of use out of it (Basketball Dad par.3), which is one of my criteria. He is currently waiting for some replacement parts to be sent in to fix the rims that started breaking and says “I will update my review and add more stars if the company stands by their product and we get the replacement parts through the warranty” (Basketball Dad par.3). He expresses some concern that the item was inexpensive and he hopes that it will last a lot longer once it gets repaired. It appears he has some concerns that because of the price the item might be cheap and not last long. This review seems to be written for anyone who is interested in purchasing this item it doesn’t seem to be targeted toward one certain group of people. Possibly parent more than anyone because he does talk about his kids getting a lot of use out of it letting parents know that it is enjoyable to the kids.
