My Clinical Experience
Introduction As I make my way through nursing school I have had many eye opener moments, as well as many a-ha moments. The classroom and clinical setting has advance my perception of nursing in general. As I read and practice on the floor I imagine myself one day working on my own as a Registered Nurse giving medical attention to the ones who seek it. There are so many personal reasons that becoming a nurse has always been my dream; due to so many family members of mine being diagnosed with so many diseases that took them away from me early. As a little girl growing up, I watched my grandfather go through cancer. On so many different days he would come back home sick from radiation and chemotherapy. He would be too weak to even feed himself …show more content…
One of my beliefs is that with this experience it has shown me how to engage with clients and my team members (nursing students). I feel like I am able to problem solve and think fast on my feet when put into situations that require a quick response. The nursing courses that I have completed this far at Forsyth Technical Community College is helping me to build a stable, strong foundation as a future nursing graduate. While in nursing school I have learned a new way of thinking. No two situations will be the same because each individual is different. I feel that I will be a great nurse who is easy to approach and continuously show my gratitude towards my clients. With this nursing education and clinical that I am experiencing has shown me how to be more patient and more caring not only for the patients but to my teachers, fellow students, and study buddies as well. Nursing has taught me that we all are one and no matter what culture, religion, or belief that one individual may have; that we are all in this together; which is ultimately human kind. I know that I still have so much to learn and that I can do that through experience.
My Career Goals It is my goal to immediately obtain my bachelor degree in nursing as soon as I graduate with my Associate degree in nursing. It is my desire to work as an educator in my future, after gaining some years of experience on the floor as a Registered Nurse. In the mean time I would love to work as a neonatal nurse. I love babies. They are the most purest, precious part of life, and it would be hard not to give them the up most care.

I attended to the mother and the child and ignored the father. I felt a lot of sadness and powerlessness about the child’s situation. In retrospect, I wonder if the father had experienced abuse and was repeating the trauma of his childhood. I also wondered if he had an undiagnosed mental illness that resulted in his behavior. In this situation, the healthcare professionals involved were very straightforward and direct. No one treated either parent rudely or unprofessionally but there was no compassion directed toward the father, either. Situations such as this call for strong psychosocial skills, as anything that can support the physical and emotional health of the father will ultimately benefit the child and the rest of the family.…

My dad had gotten very sick. The doctors found a tumor in his large intestine. Hearing that, I felt like my whole life crashed before my eyes. My dad was such a good man that sometimes I thought why something so bad, would happen to such a good person. Doctors told him he needs surgery immediately, so dad had no other choice. He went into surgery and my mom and I were there by his side the whole time. Dad needed to stay in the hospital for a full week after surgery so we each took turns staying with him. I would come from school and go to dad, and mom would leave to work. We would take turns. This hardship was difficult for me to bare. My dad didn’t really speak any good English yet at that time, so I had to be there for him and translate everything. I knew I had to help him out. Hospital days were long. I remember sitting in a chair near my dad’s hospital bed and seeing all the nurses come in and out of his room. They were all so sweet and caring. They were all trying their best to get my dad to heal faster and get better. I remember sitting there and thinking to myself, how exhilarating it is to work as a nurse and make a difference in someone’s life every single day. From that day on, I have always wanted to become a nurse. I decided that I was going to study nursing so that I would be able to make a difference in people’s lives one day. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always enjoyed helping people. Whether it was helping my classmates with homework, helping my mom around the house, or helping my dad with translating. I always did it from the heart. I truly think that serving others is my passion and my calling in life. I went to my counselor in high school and told her that I wanted to do running start. She gladly signed me up for it. I did it for two years by taking prerequisites for the nursing program at Everett Community…
