My Champion Of Courage: Bernie Sanders
My champion of courage is Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders is the current Vermont senator and a huge civil rights activist. Bernie leads a progressive voice on issues such as income inequality, climate change, LGBTQ+ equality, police brutality, reduction of student debt, abolishing the death penalty, and has a pro-choice standing on abortion. In 1963 he participated in the March on Washington. In college Bernie was in the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee both at University of Chicago. Although Bernie didn’t end world hunger, he is a very inspirational person and my champion of courage.

Malala and Dr. King Malala and Dr. King, though different in age and gender, were both enormously brave and persistent. Both Malala and Dr. King were threatened by death, but they stood strong and continued on with their crusades. Malala was threatened by the Taliban for speaking out against a girl’s right to go to school, and Dr. King was threatened for speaking out against racial inequality. Though they both fought for the same general idea of freedom, Malala and Dr. King did approach the idea of equality differently (blogging versus speeches), even though both were inspirational. These individuals are so inspirational, in fact, that both have a day named after them!…

what exactly is a hero? Who can be classified as heroic? From my perspective a hero is not only someone who wears a cape, has superhuman strength, wears fancy clothes or someone who saves his lady from the bad guy; however he is someone who stands for strength, bravery, humbleness, justice and equality. I believe a hero is someone who truly intends to make the world a better place for all people. He stands for what he believes in even though he may encounter danger and obstacle. We often watch movies with action heroes fighting for a good cause, but these heroes cause us ignore the real life heroes such as Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr are genuinely the definition of a hero.…

Rosa Parks was told by a white passenger to move and let him sit in that seat. Rosa refused to get up and was then arrested. This was an act of Moral Courage because Rosa was doing the right thing even though there was a punishment. She knew that there has to be a change in the unfair society, so she stood up and started the Montgomery Bus Boycott with this act of courage. My protector, Philip Fonsworth went into the Army to fight for the freedoms that we currently have in present day and often take for granted. Philip was stationed in multiple places that forced him to remain uncomfortable, but in Korea the dramatic anger forced upon Americans was unbearable. Some people find it hard to utilize their inner strengths and over power their weaknesses. Courage is the undiscovered strength beyond ones comfort ability. The capability to face ones rival, whether it means existence or fatality, is a clear example of courage. My father, a brave man, was treated as a second class citizen and remained determined to fight for our Country's values.…

When we speak of revolutionary leaders we immediately think of Mandela, Malcolm, King, Lincoln, Kennedy, and Gandhi. They are wonderful examples of virtue, but others immediately come to my mind like Ramón Emeterio Betances, Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos, Lolita Lebron, and the Young Lords. The Young Lords have had a great impact on the lives of Hispanic Americans and on my life personally. The Young Lords instilled a sense of Puerto Rican pride during a time when Puerto Ricans were looked at with great racial, cultural and language discrimination as well as economic exploitation. They changed the sanitation standards on inner city streets, started free children’s…

Martin Luther King Jr. once said “ In the recesses of my heart, I am fundamentally, a clergyman, a Baptist preacher.” During a time of inequality and a time of need, Martin Luther King Jr. became a leader, a regional sign of hope, strength, and courage. People all around him looked to him as a leader, someone that would help change the way people looked at colored skin forever.
