While researching texts written and published about Nurse Practitioners, I have found that Nurse Practitioners are rapidly becoming the top health partner choice for many Americans. Nurse Practitioners have been servicing patients for over forty years. The NP role had its initiation in the mid-sixties in response to a lack of physicians in the United States. They can perform very extensive and concentrated examinations; distinguish and treat common keen illnesses, as well as laboratory tests; and educate and instruct patients and their loved ones about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and possible health care options. In all fifty states Nurse Practitioners are allowed to prescribe medications to patients, including controlled substances. Only twenty-six states allow Nurse…

I am a graduate from Glen Oaks Community College and I would love to continue my education with Glen Oaks and their Nursing Program. I am a very athletic person, therefore in my free time my activities include running, playing sports, coaching and being involved with my family. Working two jobs, one being a Nursing Assistant and Unit Technician at The Community Health Center of Branch County and the other doing in home care for an elderly patient, does make it difficult to find free time. With what little free time I do have I enjoy spending it with my family as they are very important to me. I try to make it a routine to visit with my grandmas to have lunch with them and to drive them around where ever is needed due to the fact that they both cannot drive. I am currently training to run a marathon in May. During softball season, I volunteer with the coaching staff at the Coldwater High School. My greatest satisfaction so far in life, is the fact that I am one of few to have graduated from a college with a degree within my family. I am proud to say that I have paid for me education with my hard work. I hope with the help of Glen Oaks Community College I can obtain a new satisfaction of becoming a nurse. Being A Nurse Essay

I believe one of the hardest aspects of being a nurse is having to deal with a patient’s death, especially if it’s unexpected, and you have grown close to them. Although I am not a nurse, I do know the pain of losing someone dear to me, just as every individual does. As a new nurse, of course, it would be difficult to handle a sudden and bloody patient death. As of right now I don’t know how I would handle it because I have not had to face such a situation. Dealing with a patient’s sudden death would be really emotional, but I would try to move on from the experience. I usually try to make light of a depressing situation. When I have issues or something on my mind, I talk to friends about how I am feeling. I think a way to get pass through…

My insatiable appetite for knowledge coupled with compassion and commitment to nursing shape my desire to pursue a DNP in nurse anesthesia. Clinical rotations in OR as a close observer during an open Heart Surgery at the IMMC, while a student at the DePaul University also afforded me opportunity to see administration anesthetic drugs by a CRNA. In concretizing my interest to purse a DNP in Nurse Anesthesia, nothing can be more absolute than witnessing the births of our three children and the joy that they have brought in to my life.
