She would look like she was, going to church but she never went. That was one of the reasons why the adults talk about her when she isn’t there. Miss Moore brings us gifts but our parents would be, embarrassed to tell her to leave. She’d been to college and was a woman who “ gives back” to her community by saying it’s merely virtuous , that she should take responsibility for the children’s education. She cares for the children in the community and she’s not related by marriage or blood. Nevertheless Miss Moore wasn’t related to us, but we saw that she was the solely one in the community that indeed cared genuinely for us. Though occasionally she can be…

After coming back from the camp I have continued to use my voice and speak my opinion. Being confident has led me to be distinguished from my fellow peers at the University of Delaware. I was given the opportunity to be a teachers’ assistant for a 300 level nutrition counseling course. My duties were hands-on and included leading an inter-disciplinary approach to education with the nutrition and theatre departments. Theatre students were trained to act as patients and nutrition students had the opportunity to practice their assessment, counseling and communication skills. I was in charge of making sure the sessions ran smoothly and addressed any questions or concerns students had. With my commitment and interpersonal skills I was a Women of Promise Recipient and I received a junior…

I want to make everyone feel important, whether they’re my best friend or a total stranger. Ms. May was also such a positive person. Ever since I had her as my teacher, I have made it a personal goal of mine to be the bright light in someone else’s day. I hold the belief that simply smiling at another person can make the difference between a horrible day and a good day. In the end, I think it was Ms. May’s passion for teaching that really drove me to finally decide to become a teacher. I want to make a difference in someone’s life the way she has made a difference in mine. Having that discussion with her at Caribou only confirmed that. Who knows, maybe someday I will summon up the guts to send this paper to her as a thank you. Because goodness knows, she deserves it and so much…
