Mount Saint Charles Academy-Personal Narrative Analysis
“I attract a crowd, not because I’m an extrovert, or I’m over the top, or I’m oozing with charisma. It’s because I care.” (Gary Vaynerchuk). This quote closely resembles one of the qualities of a liberally educated person, “They nurture and empower the people around them.” One excellent example of this is the sense of community at Mount Saint Charles Academy. Throughout my high school career, I have made so many memories with various individuals. I remember, my first day at Mount in 8th grade, I was heading to the locker room from TC and I fell down the stairs and took out three people with me. One person that fell down with me became my best friend that year. Another memory was back freshman year. I love how our entire school comes together

“Slow down, future leaders of America at play,” a sign engrained in my memory as a result of the numerous volunteer trips I took to Mountain Mission School. Mountain Mission School (MMS) is a Christian boarding school and home to many children, who come from devastating backgrounds and poverty. Receiving no government funding, Mountain Mission School located in Grundy, Virginia operates solely on private donations and generous charities from churches all over America. In addition to a school, MMS played a key role in my life. Not only was MMS my home but also my church starting from second grade up until I graduated high school.…

New York City is a city of dreams. All the people in the world want to live in the Big Apple. It is famous for all the symbols present in it, its yellow cabs, its grid pattern, its international population and especially the height of its skyscrapers. This was the thing that impressed me the most; the lights, the billboards, and the huge buildings that I had never seen before transported me.…

Something I regret was when I was in 8th grade, I wouldn’t try on my grades. I would never give effort in my classes. My parents would always have to warn me or caution me to try or else I’ll get something wrong or I’ll miss a homework grade or forget to study for a test. They were the foundation in my grades, I would have gotten C’s and B’s if it weren’t for my parents always bugging me to do it. Junior high was supposed to get you ready for high school, and I don’t know what I was thinking about not trying in 8th. We’ll see what happens in high school.…

I rushed downstairs , hungry as a bear, to get a snack. Then my parents called me into the kitchen. They stood there as serious, as they could be. They said since it was a new year, they wanted me to have a better education. I could tell that this was already a bad news. Goose bumps spread all over my body.…

There are many things I’ve learned in this semester. First , I’ve learned to complete my homework on time. Homework always make me worried and I just want to get over with. When I was in High School I never manage time to complete my homework. College teach me to be a serious and a mature student. Second, I get better at taking notes because I pay more attention when professor is lecturing. I tired to stay focused in class to be a good listener as well. If I didn’t let my mind go somewhere than I’ve a ability to write everything down. If I took a good notes than it would me more easier for me to understand and study. I won’t have difficult time for the test. Lastly,…

If I was a audience member of my 2015 fall semester class, I feel like I would have enjoyed listening to presentations. The reason I think I would have enjoyed it, is because the topics were interesting. I felt that most of my speeches where well planned out and organized. I gave lots of information on the topics that I presented. Also the times that I did make eye contact with the audience, the class looked engaged and attentive. Which makes me feel that I also would have enjoyed it. Lastly I got back positive feedback from my class members.…

As I sit at my computer reading a predetermined list of phrases and words that include things such as “Northwest is best” to simply, “squirrels,” I think about how each word or phrase has meant something to me at one point or another, throughout my life. After much thought, there are three finalists that resonate with me the most; “grit,” “vocation,” and “persistence.” These three words could easily sum up my life in the shortest way possible.…

At the beginning of the term, I quite honestly thought that this class would be both a waste of my time and my money. It just seemed that it would be one of those classes where the professor would just assign us pointless activities in an attempt to keep students within college. However, as I progressed through this course, I found skills that will not only help me throughout college, but in life as well.…

The rain had been falling all day. I grudgingly canceled the tennis game I had planned with my doubles partner Jackson, changing out of my tennis whites with a sigh. I tossed my phone across the room, and it landed on my desk, on top of a pile of folders, binders, and nearly unused school supplies. I had just graduated from high school the day before, and hadn’t gotten around to cleaning up yet. “Well, since I have nothing else to do,” I thought, I shrugged and started placing piles on my shelf. This wasn’t the best system, and my things were already disorganized, so inevitably the top shelf spilled its contents onto the ground. The first thing I went to pick up was a ripped green folder, stuffed to the brim with papers. When I sprang it open,…

Beyond classroom, one activity I participated is volunteering as a teacher assistant in child clay class and child Mandarin class. During my volunteer time, I learned how to communicate with children, draw their attentions to the teacher, and help them develop positive attitudes toward learning. These experiences helped me to become patient, to listen to others' opinions before express my own ideas. Interaction with children around academic aspects developed my problem solving skills. By attempting to understand why some mistakes are made by students or how to explain certain concepts give me opportunities to consider the reason for the children's mistake, review my own possible misleading explanations and make some adjustments accordingly. In addition to my interactions with the children in classes, many parents also ask for their children's performance during class. By commenting on children's performance, parents have a better understanding of their children's strengths and weaknesses which can help children to make further improvement. When interacting children about their imaginations such as their ideas about their projects in clay class, makes myself less limited to ideas. Children's creativity I saw during my volunteer experiences gives me many inspirations when I am brainstorming ideas for…
