Mothers Against Drunk Driving Case Study
This assignment will focus on the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the role it plays in social policy. I will go over why MADD was created, what problems lead to creating MADD and how the problem was identified as a social policy. In addition, I will also discuss policies created as a result of MADDs influence, what problems were experienced while implementing the polices, and what effects these social policies have on human services delivery.
MADD was created in 1980 by Candice Lightner, this non-profit organization was started so it could bring awareness and educate the public on the dangers and results of driving drunk. The problem that led Candice to start this organization was the death of her 13 year old daughter,

Infuriated with this fact, she decided to make a change. She quit her job and used all her funds to support this non-profit organization. After travelling across the country, speaking of her experience, and inspiring many citizens, Candy has helped MADD gain the recognition it deserves.     This whole idea of MADD started years ago when Candy Lightner’s daughter Cari, was walking with her friend and was struck and killed by a man who left the scene of the accident, and was drunk driving. After she was told that he actually was only out of jail for two days after being arrested for another hit- and- run drunk- driving crash.
