Either way, Moses was born during this time and after three months, being no longer able to hide him, his mother placed him in a basket along the riverbank of the Nile. The Pharaoh’s daughter found him and without a doubt, saw his circumcision and yet, had pity on him. She would have probably taken him in at that time, but both for wisdom’s sake and probably because she didn’t have breast milk, asked for an ISRAELITE to nurse him until she could take him in herself. This woman was Moses’ mother and she also got paid by the Pharaoh’s daughter to do so. Fascinating turn of events. Either way, Pharaoh’s daughter took Moses into her house shortly after he was able to eat solid food, and “he became her son.” (cf. Ex. 2:1-10) Immediately you should be thinking, how is this possible in the context of a period of genocide against ISRAEL’S male children? Simple reasoning states three things…

Moses returns to Egypt and fails to convince the Pharaoh to release the Israelites. There are several covenants in the Bible, and in each case they exhibit at least some of the elements found in real-life treaties of the ancient Middle East: a preamble, historical prologue, stipulations, deposition and reading, list of witnesses, blessings and curses, and ratification by animal sacrifice. After due warning, the second plague came to Egypt. Aaron stretched forth his hand over the waters of Egypt, and frogs swarmed forth. They covered every inch of land and entered the houses and bedrooms; wherever an Egyptian turned, whatever he touched, he found there the slimy bodies of frogs, the croaking's of which filled the air. Now Pharaoh became frightened,…

It may help to first view the Exodus myth in terms of actual historical events prior to analyzing the narrative about events that may or may not have occurred. In his book, The Jewish Way, Rabbi Irving Greenberg describes the historical events of the exodus as, "Moses, called by God, came to Pharaoh with a request that the slaves be given a temporary release to go and worship in the desert. Then, step by step, the power of Pharaoh was broken; step by step, the temporary release escalated into a demand for freedom"(27). According to Jewish teachings, the myth can also include the reception of the covenant with God, known as Shavout, which Greenberg states as being "the link between the two major Exodus commemorations"(25). We can view the Exodus as an "orienting myth" in historical terms in that it literally oriented (set a navigational path) the Jewish people for their journey to new land…

    Prince of Egypt

The story of The Prince of Egypt was very inspiring. It’s about the life of Moses. Long ago in Egypt, all new born male Hebrews are to be killed. In order to save Moses, his mother put him in a basket and the queen found him along the river. Moses grew up with his foster brother, Ramses. They were really close and living happy and wealthy. One day, Moses met his siblings. His sister insisted that Moses is her brother, and that he is a Hebrew. Of course Moses wouldn’t believe her, but she sang a lullaby that her mother sang when he was still a baby. He realized that he was really a Hebrew when he dreamt that same night. Looking at the Israelite slaves suffering, Moses killed an Egyptian. He didn’t really mean it, and went away ashamed and confused. In the dessert, he found a burning bush. It was God commanding him to save the Israelites from the Egyptians. So Moses went back to Egypt, and was welcomed by Ramses. Moses asked to free the Israelites, but that’s just one thing Ramses wouldn’t do. Moses then performed a miracle by turning his staff to a snake; but they were not impressed. Moses still tried to convince Ramses, and performed more miracles. Guided by God, Moses and the Israelites headed to Israel which was a sea away. God helped them by dividing the sea into half in order for them to pass. In Mount Sinai, God appeared and gave them the Ten Commandments. If people will follow it, they will be able to live in the promise land with Abraham as their father.…
