Moody Family Museum Exhibit History.
MOODY FAMILY MUSEUM EXHIBIT HISTORY.
This exhibit traces the history of early Texas banking and the involvement of the Moody family of Galveston in the expansion of that industry. Colonel William Lewis Moody began the family’s banking heritage by serving as president of the National Bank of Texas, which was the second bank established in the state receiving its charter on March 6, 1866. His son, W. L. Moody, Jr., continued the family tradition with the founding of City National Bank in 1907 and the establishment of W. L. Moody and Company Bankers, Unincorporated in 1916. W. L. Moody, Jr.’s daughter, Mary Moody Northen, and his grandson, Robert L. Moody, Sr., upheld the family banking tradition. Learn about the history of this family and their leadership in the development of the Texas banking industry.
Welcome to Moody Mansion ! Restored to its turn of the century splendor, the 28,000 square-foot, four-story structure was completed in 1895. Today, our guests visit 20 rooms on a tour that depicts the home life of a powerful Texas family. The Moody’s established one of the great American financial empires. Based on cotton, it grew to include banking, ranching, insurance and hotels.

W.L Moody Jr. bought the home from the heirs of the original owners soon after the great hurricane of 1900. Mr. and Mrs. Moody and their four children celebrated the first of more than eighty Christmas seasons in the house in December of that year. The house remained home for Moody family members until 1986. Today, its rooms are filled with the furnishings and personal affects of the family.

The philanthropic legacy of the Moody family of Galveston is carried on today by the Moody Foundation and the Mary Moody Northen Endowment. Both charitable foundations are major forces in health care, education, historic preservation, and the arts. The Moody Foundation has developed spectacular Moody Gardens on the west end of the city. The outside activity that I chose to do was to visit a museum. The museum in which I visited was the Brandywine River Museum. This museum is located in Chadds Ford PA, which is right outside of Philadelphia, and like the name says it sits right along the Brandywine River. I went to this fine art museum with my sister who lives in the area and we did not take a guided tour, instead we just walked around on our own time and were able to talk about the paintings with each other and express our likes and dislikes of a certain picture or sculpture. The two major collections in this museum were the Jamie Wyeth collection and the Andrew Wyeth: Lines of Thought collection. There was also a heritage collection. The museum itself was in a very beautiful building and the view of the Brandywine River made the experience at the museum much better because there were some pieces in the museum that were similar to the landscape of the outside, which is thought was nice because you could look at a painting then look outside and they almost looked alike due to the painting being done so well.…

The idea for a Bank of the United States or a National Bank was conceived by Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of Treasury under President George Washington (Remini, "Andrew Jackson and the Bank War," 23). It was originally supposed to serve as a central fiscal system for the nation where the government would deposit money and appoint five of the twenty five board members, in an attempt to provide some sort of government regulation and representation in this new bank. Most of the bank 's business would be private and it would be privately run (Remini, "Andrew Jackson and the Bank War," 24). The biggest problem with the banking system of the time was the discrepancy between paper money and "hard money," which is the bimetallic system of gold and silver (Remini, "Andrew Jackson and the Bank War," 25). This led to the challenge of issuing different bank notes at different state branches; the amounts were not always the same and it caused a problem with knowing which medium of exchange was correct (Remini, "Andrew Jackson and the Bank War," 25). The charter on the First Bank of the United States expired in 1811 but, due to financial troubles after the War of 1812, James Madison chartered the Second Bank of the United States on May 10, 1816 (Remini, "Andrew Jackson and the Bank War," 26).…

Presentation is everything. People often over look something because the first impression they experience is lack luster. The Sutliff museum is full of timeless treasures, offering a wonderful insight to 19th century history and the underground railroad. Unfortunately, the current promotional material does not do the museum justice. It appears out date and doesn't grab the attention of an audience. I’d like to rebrand the promotional material for The Sutliff Museum so that it reflects an updated, fresh design that draws people to the museum. My intent is to design two brochures, an information flyer, and update the website layout.…

The museum began with an LSU alumnus, Jack Andonie, whose goal was to fill the museum with collections of LSU sports relics. He was a devoted fan with a passionate love for LSU. Andonie collected 13,000 LSU sports related items. The vast collection began to take over his home and his wife, Priscilla Andonie, forced him to make a decision between “Me or the stuff.” Arousing the construction of the museum in 2004, Jack Andonie decided to donate his valuable collection to LSU. Since then, the museum is fueled by donations from fans and other generous alumni.…

My observation of the Children’s Museum took place on February 29,2016. I arrived at the museum at 12:45 and stayed until 4:45 that evening. During my time at the museum I saw four children total. There were three boys and one girl. The boys ages ranged from what appeared to be about one years old to about six years old. The girl seemed to be about four years of age. The children really seemed to enjoy the museum. The young girl played with the kitchen set while the boys seemed to like the water area. I tried to interact with the girl while she was “cooking”. I asked her what she was serving and she said “gumbo”. I tried asking which type but she seemed to be shy. The diversity among the children was not too broad. All looked to appear white…

It’s the first Saturday of March, on a cold morning with a clear sky and a radiant sun, I decided to visit a museum in downtown Saint Louis, Missouri. I’m arriving at eleven o’clock, a little bit late to what I was expecting because the Metrolink train had a delay due to technical problems. The museum is located exactly below the famous Gateway Arch of Saint Louis. I have heard that it’s an excellent place to learn about American History and the way America expanded to the West.…
