Mockingjay Epilogue
Mockingjay Epilogue
By: Brian Eappen Today is the day. The day where the Mockingjay unites with another to continue their lives together. Mother and I walk back to what’s left of the Seam, knowing it is a place worthy of a wedding. I found the dresses Cinna left behind for the forced wedding. Now, with Coin and Snow dead, nothing feels forced. I can hunt freely outside the District Limits put in place by the Peacekeepers. I can give to the poor what I catch, and I can make sure everyone is equal. I chose the least popular dress for the moment because I wanted to resist the Capitol to the maximum I could. I hate them for everything they did. Not just the military officials, everyone there. Taking all our resources and killing us off without a just reason. That’s why everyone needs a guiding light. And to me, Peeta’s light shines the brightest. He’s the reason I’m still alive. Because he risked himself to be captured by the Capitol so I would be safe. And only him will I trust to lead me into happiness. The center of the Seam has been decorated with roses. Primroses. My sister, she should be the bridesmaid, not Greasy Sae’s granddaughter. Buttercup appears out of nowhere, but he’s also been groomed for the occasion. I see the rest of Peeta’s family come by, and Haymitch, sober for the second time ever, comes to be the officiant. We take our places, and I see the most handsome man ever. As I walk towards Peeta, I can’t help but smile. He’s the one who always liked me, even though we never spoke. He never judged me or even disagreed with me when he was perfectly sane. I finally make it to him, and he says the first words he has to me in days. “Your father would have been proud,” he says. And he’s right. If he was still alive, he would be so happy that I extinguished the fear of the reapings forever. He should be the one leading me to Peeta, but he’s dead. Another fault of the Capitol. They didn’t even try to make sure the workplace was safe for the miners.

First, I am reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and I finished the book. Chapters 24-30 are about Aunt Alexandra’s attempt to make scout more feminine, Helen Robinson’s reaction to Tom’s death, Cecil’s current event about Hitler, Scout and Jem’s pageant, and Mr. Ewell attacking Jem and Scout on their way home. Dill leaves to go back to the Meridian and school starts. Jem gets frustrated easily now because he is going through tough times. In this journal, I will be evaluating “walking in someone’s shoes.”…

Through the use of language techniques and character manipulation she portrays this contriving conviction to the reader. Katniss uses an imperative "Okay, I figured out what I'm asking," I say. "If it is Peeta and me in the Games, this time we try to keep him alive." To convey her wishes to save Peeta and the addition of the italics of the word “him” enhances the depth of her feelings. “And one of us is going to be victor again whether you two like it or not!” through the use of his indifferent tone Peeta conveys his courage to Katniss which also acts to empower her. He shows his courage, as he knows that he may not survive, as it is his plan to do anything possible to save Katniss just as she plans to do for him. This is where the major conflicting perspective lies between the two as they are both attempting to save the others life because of their resonating love. This is similar to the conflict between Brutus and Cassius where Brutus kills Caesar for the good of Rome “not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” the use of juxtaposition accentuates the love that Brutus has for Rome just like the love Peeta and Katniss have for each other and how powerful a motivator this can be in any situation. Cassius on the other hand is motivated by his greed and jealousy “this man is now become a god, and Cassius is a wretched creature, and must bend his body if Caesar carelessly but nod on him” The use of hyperbole and metaphor emphasizes this and resonates the conflicting motives between Cassius and Brutus. The Quarter Quell of the Hunger games sets the perfect background for Collins to shape the characters in a way that reflects her perceived viewpoint of conflicting perspectives which is also presented to the audience by Shakespeare in the events…

For my group we did the scene where Jem and Scout find the items inside the knothole in the Radley’s place. This scene is very important to me because it shows us how Boo Radley really is. We see him as someone who is unliked from people. They make him seem as someone who is unknown and scary. In this chapter, they make us see another side of Boo Radley we never would have seen.…

The book’s first chapter is about Dryden meeting Rachel. She runs into him early in the morning and asks “Yes or no, she said, I can’t wait any longer”(Lee 6). From how Patrick Lee describes the scene you can clearly tell Rachel does not have a lot of time to waste. She needs to get going as fast as possible. That is why I chose the song Time Bomb by All Time Low. The quote from the song is, “We were like a time bomb set into motion, we knew that we were destined to explode”. This quote works imperviously for the whole book. The two are always being chased down and Rachel constantly has time stuck on her mind. She always has to be on the run from the Government. She makes some friends on this journey, in the little time she feels safe. She has had time stuck in her head since she escaped the laboratory that they were testing her in. Rachel tells Dryden she can not wait very long. She is just trying to keep enough time between her and the government, or at least enough to let her live. She lost all of her memory and that will take time for it to all come back to…

In this bustling world, everyone is born with responsibility. We have the obligation and duty to satisfactorily complete each of the tasks that comes across us. In all the texts that had been covered in this semester, it seems that “Mockingjay” has provided relatively easier and comparable examples about responsibility. In this novel, the author’s idea of being an accountable person should make decisions to serve themselves as well as others. Besides, the writer emphasizes that it is very important for us to keep a balance between taking accountability for oneself and others. In order to become more successful, we should learn our own limitations and be responsible for ourselves before we can be responsible for others.…

I think I probably wouldn't be able to survive in the wilderness, much less if people are trying hard to make sure I don't survive until the next day. In literature, "evil often triumphs but never conquers."(Joseph Roux) A triumph is only short- term, for example, something short- term would be an achieved title, a victory in a battle, or a winner in a game. These three things are only temporary, as triumphs usually are in novels. When something is conquered, it remains conquered permanently. Usually the evil force is unable to conquer, because of the opposite side 's mentality. Because of these definitions, this statement is showing that even though evil characters or actions prevail in battles or events, the feat would not last forever, especially in the hearts and minds of the opposite side. I agree with this statement because there is proof that this is true in novels that I have read. Many novels have this common theme: good versus evil. This theme is shown in two works, Macbeth and To Kill A Mockingbird.…

Atticus Finch said, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird." Jem learns that it’s wrong to kill a mockingbird because they are innocent creatures. As the citizens of Maycomb are introduced, you realize all the hatred and violence that kids, parents, and friends have to experience. Some children, like Dill, who’s basically an orphan, want nothing except to have a family to look after them; Or Jem, who start out enjoying their young lives, but later grow up to a world full of wrong-doing. Even a man who was victimized from one event that happened in his teen years, grows up innocent minded, yet was still treated as a foe after he grew up. Harper Lee destroys the innocence of three child-like “mockingbirds” in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, to metaphorically illustrate the pureness that’s lost in everyday life. Lee composes a few examples from the city of Maycomb, but soon you realize how these very instances happen in our own lives as well.…

Morality is not a virtue that many can tolerate without a conscience. It was considered the critical awareness of humanity's standards of conduct that are accepted as proper. Yet, for Scout, morality becomes not only a principle, but also a necessity in order for her to survive in the prejudiced society of Maycomb County. It is solely the essence of ethics that causes her to frown upon the injustices brought about by intolerance. Thus, Scout's maturity towards understanding the vitality of morality allows her to become a noble individual in an unjust social order.…
