Mizzou Personal Statement

The thought of not furthering my education was never an option for my siblings and I. From a young age we were told that the only way to succeed in this world is to work hard and be kind. I believe that furthering my education will help in both of these areas for a couple of reasons. Attending a very diverse university such as Mizzou will provide me the opportunity to meet new people and experience what the world has to offer other than the small sample of it that I get in Monroe City. I will also become more open-minded to different viewpoints and will learn how to question these. This will help develop my people skills. In school, I have always worked hard and enjoyed doing so because I knew in the long run it would pay off. This initiative comes from my father and brother who have set a perfect example of how a man holds himself together and how to provide for your loved one. I believe this hard work and sense of responsibility helps my golf game tremendously for a number of reasons. I know how to persevere through the bad holes in golf or bad days in everyday life. For instance, agriculture has made me realize the value of hard work and responsibility in addition the importance of being financially stable to support myself and my family. I would not trade my experiences for anything because they have taught me that in order to create a prosperous life for my future family; I must work hard now and get a good education. It’s kind of like when you plant a corn seed the benefits will not be instantaneous instead you have to wait for the crop to fully mature and develop a ear. This is the same for my education my brain is still growing and I cannot stop the growing yet because I have not reached my peak.
