In my freshman year, I went to Ohio Mission Trip, which was led by Mrs. Lundquist. While I had an amazing life experience through volunteering, I was able to become closer to my friends and upper classmen. Darby and Sydney Lundquist also joined the trip, and they shortly introduced me about Washington and Lee University. I assumed the college should be very advanced since they were well-known for their excellence in intelligence and sports. This year I attended a college meeting with Mr. Webster to get to know more about the college. It was a great opportunity for me to grasp a big picture of the school as well as more specific details of admissions. I immediately fell in love with the school as Mr. Webster explained about the school in detail.…

I came from a family of really athletic people. My Mom and sister Kaitlyn both played softball from a young age and had many great accomplishments. My sister Kassidy played soccer from a young age as well. I have a lot to live up to. I started playing soccer when I four and I played for one year until I was no longer interested in it anymore. I started softball when I was five, and it wasn’t my favorite. I then retreated back to soccer for a few years. When I was in second grade, I cut my ankle on the bowl that my dog broke when I was trying to get cereal because I was hungry. After that I really didn’t want to play soccer anymore, so I decided to retire my soccer cleats forever. After this, I tried various different ranging from swim team to softball, and as you can imagine, softball stuck. When it did though, it came with my hot-headed personality showing. There was no way around it. I was also very independent, which could be a good thing in some cases, but as I got older I was required to do more group work. I just didn’t know how to.…

People would say ‘Girls don’t play hockey. Girls don’t skate.’ I would say ‘watch this’. This quote was stated by the first women to play full-time professional hockey in a position other than goalie, Hailey Wickenheiser. This extremely talented female went against all the odds and came out on top. How awesome is that?? If you ask me, a fellow female hockey player, I’d say it’s pretty incredible. I have been playing competitive hockey for the past 14 years of my life. Growing up playing a male dominate sport has impacted my life tremendously and in so many ways has helped form me into the person I am today. Fighting the never ending battle to be accepted and respected in a man’s sport, developing the thoughts and emotions of a man, and the impact it has made on mine and my father’s relationship over the years are only a few areas in my life that hockey has impacted.…

On the first weekend in June, I had the honor of meeting the pro bowler Diandra Asbaty. Not only is she paving roads for females in the sport of bowling, she is sharing her knowledge with those around her. I spent the whole weekend with Mrs. Asbaty, and two other close professional bowler mentors. At the International Art of Bowling summer camp, I was able to express to Diandra how much of a role model she is to me. Growing up in the town of Dyer, Indiana, Diandra makes the dream of becoming a professional bowler attainable. Two people who are close to Diandra: Jason Belmonte and Ron Hoppe also had marvelous things to say about this incredible young woman. Jason Belmonte, a well-known two-handed Australian bowler is ranked number two by the PBA (Professional Bowlers Association). “Working with Diandra as a friend and competitor helps me improve my game and challenges me daily to grow as a bowler and person,” Belmonte says of Asbaty. Diandra Asbaty recently beat Jason Belmonte in a double’s tournament presented by the PBA. While observing Diandra’s conversations with Jason, I realized they had a brother-sister type relationship. Both were able to pick on each other and play harmless jokes often to lighten the…

I put my faith in God. I didn’t know where my journey would lead. I applied and was accepted to Bethel University. I have since been promoted at work. I am engaged to be married in July. I will graduate from Bethel University in May. In the Book of Romans Paul discusses faith in God. Paul instructs us to put our faith in Jesus and not in man. I am living testimony to the power of faith. I have not always been a perfect man, yet God listened to my prayers. I get down on my knees every day to thank him for what He has done in my life. I would not have believed that I would have this life five years ago. Faith is truly the belief in things unseen. I would never have seen this life five years…

Sports have always been a big part of my life. When you’re a little kid with ADHD, most often you’re told to sit down, shut up, and PLEASE control yourself! However, the power of sports flips this. Your parents scream, “Run fast! Get loud! GET HIM! You can see why I would enjoy this stuff. So, I did many different sports, learning not just techniques, but life lessons as well. And one season in particular (my first official season of hockey) would be very fruitful.…

When I was in seventh grade I decided to join hockey. I had never stepped on ice or touched a hockey stick before in my life. I arrived at the arena on the first day of practice with a heart full of mixed emotions. Naturally, I was extremely scared of the unknown, but I was also extremely excited to try this new sport. I was missing most of the necessary equipment because neither I or my parents knew what I needed. The coach was able to borrow me some equipment from the association. I spent the next three months repeatedly skating in between the blue lines every practice, learning how to skate. I fell and hurt myself more time than I can remember, but I improved a lot. The only thing that kept me going was watching the other kids effortlessly skating past me, I wanted to be like them. Every small achievement made me try harder each day.…

Many people go on Mission trips to support other communities that are in need, but some go for the many friendships and experiences that last a lifetime. I had always remembered day three of Mission Trip 2015 because I helped the Cheyenne River community, made friends with people from around the state, and renewed old friendships with people from my own school.…

Growing up in a catholic school, going to church, and being surrounded by Christians has greatly impacted my life. Not noticing it much before, I now see how the majority of the people in my life consider faith the key to a successful life. Additionally, the only way to understand your faith is by reading the Bible. Not only had my parents encouraged me to read the Bible, but those of all different generations around me. My friend Christine, who is thirteen years old, agrees with my mother who is in her forties, and my grandparents who are in their seventies and eighties. I received the chance to ask them personally if they think reading the Bible is important, if they read the Bible, and their favorite Bible stories and lessons. Likewise, I got the chance to do so to myself.…
