Misophonia Research Paper

A condition, called misophonia, may now explain why some people react so intensely to other people’s breathing, etc. Researchers at Newcastle University have been studying such reactions along with brain activity from those studied. In their research they found that almost one in five people are affected by noise, the rest left unfazed. The few bothered showed signs of anxiety and anger, the part of the brain known for processing emotions showing the most disturbance. People also showed increased heart rate which scientist believe may be due to the stress brought on by the study. Researchers have not yet found exactly what triggers these reactions but, seem to be approaching an answer.
