Metanoia In American History X
While watching, American History X, I’ve noticed the Derek went through a lot just to find justice, however, he made the wrong decision, which caused him to experience something terrifying. The movie was released in 1998 and became really popular as the years went on. With all the Nazi symbols, gang violence, and jail time it shows a path that Derek took because of the death of his father. The film follows the Christian myth, “Metanoia (shift of the mind)”, which is what Derek went through, then finds salvation during the movie.
In my paper, I’m going to explain the Metanoia that Derek went through throughout this movie. First, I’m going to give a brief description of how he was before the anger. Then, going to describe what he became after

He was never the type of kid that would get in trouble, wasn’t biased against other race and he was also a straight “A” student. However, his dad had brainwash him with stuff about different races, which when his dad dies, it changes Derek view on society and makes him hate other race. The death of Derek’s dad had a big impact on his life. As it showed in the movie, Derek wanted justice, as he was going through the grieving process from his dad’s death. There were several things that Derek did during the time he was angry. One of the first things he did was form the “Skinheads”, which was a Neo-Nazi group that only had whites and hated any other group that wasn’t white. While forming the Skinheads, Derek attacks a store full “illegal immigrants” as he calls them. In the time that Derek is doing some hateful acts against other race, he is being manipulated by a man named “Cameron” who basically is Derek’s mentor in all the stuff that Derek does. Out of things that Derek does, the one thing that puts Derek in jail was when the 3 black guys, who had to leave the courts due to losing them to him in basketball, tried to rob him, but since Danny (Derek’s little brother) told him, it put Derek in a dangerous. So Derek went outside and shot both of them, but one of them was still alive, which was Lawrence (One of the black guys that lost to in basketball), so he told Lawrence to put his mouth on the curb and Derek stomped on his …show more content…

Rather, Derek sees some other Skinheads and send a signal to them to let them know that he wants to be with. 1. The author shows his appreciation for this film and its director by first stating that as he watched the film he was in a state of astonishment. Almond also goes into detail about scenes and expresses why the particular scene was important and how great it was. Such as the scene with Alan Ruck in the museum as he is staring at the masterpiece. Almond also talks about how important the characters are and how great of roles Hughes had them play. His main argument is that this film is not just a “teen movie” that it goes much deeper than that.…

Mulholland Drive is a twisted and exhilarating movie directed by David Lynch. The movies tells the story of a Canadian women, Diane Selwyn, who moves to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. For the most of the movie, we are thrown into a dream Diane has. In this dream many of the characters and people in her actual life are integrated into her dream with new identities. The last part of the movie we are brought back to Dianes actual reality. Only once I was brought into Dianes reality did I realize the importance of the fantasy. I believe Diane has realized the hard, cruel reality of Hollywood and this has caused her to have a breakdown. She has lost the love of her life to this Hollywood scene and is faced with the fact that she is a failed actress. These inner conflicts and struggles have caused her despair and ultimately her demise.…

Throughout the course of the novel the image of fame and celebrity status help perpetuate the change in one’s behaviour and morality. As popular hockey celebrities, two characters in the novel King Leary exemplify how alcohol and partying consume their lives most notably, Manfred Ozikean and Clay Clinton. Alcohol, partying and fame are still problematic in today’s athletes. Alcohol affects the brain and its ability to produce conscious thoughts which hinders a person’s judgment and ability to make logical decisions. This is exemplified through former professional ice hockey player Derek Boogaard, who was found dead in his condo due to excessive alcohol consumption. Derek’s raise to fame caused him to binge drink and consume large amounts of prescription drugs. His fame ultimately led to a lifestyle that…

When Historians understate the faults of columbus, rather than condemn him, he is given praise for his discovery of America. I agree with the author for saying that “... but an ideological choice. Three months ago, we had a presidential election in my country. This election also was a showdown between the conservative and the progressive camp. The election was a close-run thing. No one could predict this very close election. We had two strong candidates, Guen- hye Park and Jae-in Moon. My parents supported conservative group. And I was kind of attracted to progressive camp. While I am doing this assignment, this reminds me of presidential election memories in South Korea. Every point of view is different. I would like to talk about progressive historians of interpretation on the American Revolution within twenty years 1890 to 1940 based on reading "The American Revolution: Revolutionary or Nonrevolutionary?.…

After the civil war, the US was facing many problems. These problems put the American public at risk and offended others. Something had to be done. This period in US history was called the Progressive era. Labor laws, women’s suffrage, and the US government were all reformed during the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s. In Sherman Alexie’s novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, Arnold’s best friend Rowdy calls him a “retarded fag” for transferring at the start of their freshman year of high school. Due to his background as a child, Rowdy uses cruel language and hurtful gestures anytime Arnold and Rowdy came face to face. In the chapter Revenge is my Middle Name; Arnold compares Rowdy to a snake, stating he is one of the “toughest kids on the rez… his heart is strong and mean like a snake, too” (15). His heart has calcified due to the physical abuse his father has endured on him and his mother. Rowdy calls his bruises and cuts “war paint” because it makes him look fierce (16). Arnold was the only good thing on the reservation that Rowdy had to look forward too so when Arnold decided to leave, it unleashed a new kind of relationship between the boys, one not so friendly. One example would be when Rearden played Wellpoint in the first basketball game of the season, Rowdy knocked Arnold out and gave him a concussion. Another instance would be in the chapter, “Rowdy Gives Me Advice about Love” when Rowdy replies to Arnold’s message, “Hey asshole, I’m sick of Indian guys who treat white women like bowling trophies” (115). He uses offensive language but shows that he still cares for his best friend by simply responding. When Arnold finds Rowdy crying in the bushes at Mary’s funeral, his reaction was to punch Arnold to show how emotionally strong he was. In reality, Rowdy felt disposable and abandoned. Rowdy acted out because he didn’t want Arnold to know how much his leaving the reservation hurt him. All these destructive behaviors are evidence that he does in fact care for Arnold in a…
