Memory Technique
Organize the information is the memory process chosen to improve memory. Dividing all the information into categories is a good way to organize all the information in the long term memory. By doing this, one can remember whatever they choose to remember. Highlighting chapters, taking plenty of notes, describing, and listing any relevant terms will help anyone with the amount of information they will be able to recall later.
There are three stages of memory, sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory. The stage of memory organizes the information technique relates to is, long-term memory, which stores plenty of information that has happened for more than a few minutes, and usually will be in memory, stored, and will last for a lifetime. Long term memory also stores three major categories, procedural memory, episodic memory, and semantic memory. Remembering things depends on how an individual's senses taken in experiences as they happen.
Maintaining information is important for ones well-being personally and professionally, this is where understanding memory is essential. When understanding how memory takes place processes involve the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information, this may come in different ways such as what one hears, or see's, and or the combination of how our brain remembers. If one looks at a picture, depending on how the image impacts one's thoughts may impact either the long-term memory or the short-term memory if no significance is present. Retrieving information depends on the storage of the information, short-term is back in a sequentially manner, and long-term placed in storage, and retrieved by how one associates the idea (Hockenbury & Hockenbury, 2014). This is one tip to help one to remember to organize the data or idea to help with the retrieval of the information one does not want to forget.
Organizing information helps make classifying things very easy for professionals, and common people. This process arranges memory into categories in a certain way that makes use of it more effective than other techniques. Using this method helps individuals learn new concepts in a variety of ways. For instance, grouping information by content and concept are ways of organizing information for long term memory. This procedure is meaningful because memory can be put into a category that has other similar information stored. Furthermore, creating one's own categories with relevant sorts of memory is a beneficial technique (Hockenbury & Hockenbury, 2014). With this process, individuals have a higher chance of remembering more information. Many other techniques come into use when organizing different types of data. Organizing information gives people the opportunity to put things into memory they want, and dispose of other pieces of data they do not need.

    The three memory techniques that work best with me are jingles, words, and pegging. I recall information through jingles to be more effective. I memorized telephone numbers of my faculty with a jingle I made up. Their numbers are the same but their extensions are different, so I recalled the information easier. The least effective to me was the story lines because if I am able to create a story I will end up going off track and confuse myself. I learn more from a jingle than words or pegging. As long as the jingle is catchy I am able to retain any information like lyrics from the gold fish commercial; “The snack that smiles back Goldfish”. Every time I come across any goldfish I think about the song. Plus as a visual learner I can connect one thing to another. Using the words memory technique I can also retain information. I used words before this exercise to remember order of operations with PEMDAS; please excuse my dear aunt Sallie, for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add and subtract. Using the pegging technique for history is a good way for me to hold on to information as well. In order for me to understand what events happen during a specific decade I use different color note cards to separate the events. I try to make connections through colors; for instincts all the events I am required to learn through the 1970s I use a green note cards and blue note cards for the 80s and red cards for the 90s. In the future I will practice the VCR3 memory technique because of the visualization and concentration.…
